I used a Kenmore Elite for nine years and loved it. So when we moved into a new house that had an old top loader, it was time to buy a new washer. My first choice was a competitive model by "E" company, but after a bad attempted delivery experience, switched to LG. After a month's use, I am really happy with the purchase. Washing performance is very good. With my old Kenmore, I had to pre-soak my socks in vinegar to get rid of foot odor, but this machine does an excellent job without the pre-soak. Wash times are 20-30 minutes longer than my Kenmore, but the shorter prep time and effort more than makes up for it. I use the steam function for heavily soiled clothes, but find that this machine does a good enough job even without using steam. The drum is very large - larger than my old Kenmore Elite, and easily fits a queen size comforter. Make sure though, that when using bulky items, you don't overload it with other items; if you do, it will spin at a low speed to protect the washer and your clothes will come out soaking wet. Also, I like to use the Water Plus feature because it uses more water during the rinse cycle - I prefer to make sure as much of the detergent is removed as possible. Installation was easy with a few caveats. Remember to remove the shipping bolts from the back of the washer - the Best Buy crew made sure to remind me to do this. Also, spend time to make sure the washer is level; this is done in two stages - first with a level when the washer is turned off, the final one during a spin cycle. Once you do this, the washer is extremely quiet during the spin cycle. I also like that the drain pump filter is readily accessible since I had to clean it a few times on my old Kenmore which required a fair bit of time to unscrew the cover plate, clean the filter, and put the cover plate back in place. LG has a reputation for reliability, so I hope this washer will last me a while. My old Kenmore lasted well over nine years, though I had to replace a couple of parts myself which was easy to do based on many online videos. So far, so good, and I recommend it. Also, the sales girl at my local store was good about advising me about the price match guarantee since I bought it a week before the Memorial Day sale went into effect. Best Buy was great about honoring the price match guarantee.

my old washer died, argh!.. i have to buy a new one... i spent a good 2 weeks reading reviews online.... even went to a local Best Buy store.... they showed me several top loading washers... then we came to this beauty... at first ... i was slightly put off by the idea of a front-loading washer... i wanted my old washer back with agitator.. i spent some time online reading stories about how clothes got twisted and tied up, how a front loading washer was actually better. so i said to myself.. .take a chance.. boy i'm glad i did.. i loaded my first load following all instructions and bam clothes came out practically dry after the final spin cycle. if you read other peoples reviews you'll probably read how it makes too much noise.. mine? .. i barely hear it... then again i don't overload it... maybe that's their problem?... you might read how there are always suds or maybe the washer doesn't drain... well.. don't add a tub of detergent...1 laundry pod is all you need ... oh and i love the extra water feature.. if it feels like you don't have enough water in there sometimes... looks can be deceiving just press the "add water" feature.. and it gives you a little extra.. i'm sure those saying that it doesn't drain probably fully load the washer with enough water to fill a small pool... people think that more is better with this washer and it simply isn't the case... I had gone to a friends wedding and got some kind of black residue on my pants....i ran to the bathroom to try and wipe it off... no luck... I washed my pants the next day and stain was gone.. after i finish laundry.. i wipe it down.. and leave the door open so that it can air dry... i've had this for a little over a month now.. and i have yet to experience the issues everyone else has... my guess is that their issues are a result of not following instructions on use, overloading the washer with clothes, soap and water.. i would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet efficient washer..

Best Buy keeps pestering me to leave a review, so here it is. After much research and comparison, we settled on purchasing this washer. One of the major selling points was the assurance that the spin cycle is so high, laundry comes out nearly dry and cuts down on drying time, saving money. Right away, that was not our experience. On the Cotton/Normal setting, clothing was not only not nearly dry. It was sopping wet towards the back of the drum, and there was visible water sitting in the back of the drum. This did not occur when washing towels on the Towels setting. So we contacted customer support, and they sent out a service person. He was here maybe five minutes, ran some diagnostics, didn't get any error codes and declared it was an installation error because the drain hose was too high above the machine. He advised that the pipe needed to be one foot lower because the machine didn't have enough power to push the water that high. Fine. The pipe could not be cut, so we purchased a pedestal for the washer, which lifted it fourteen inches closer to the pipe. Clothing on Cotton/Normal still coming out as wet if not wetter than our old top loader. Towels still coming out dryer. If there's an installation problem causing the machine to not drain properly, why are the towels spinning out properly? Customer service advises that since the service person said it was an installation error, if he comes out again, we will have to pay for the service call. So now we have a machine that doesn't do what was promised, on a pedestal we didn't need or want. It washes things well and uses less water and detergent. That's something. But we're now running the dryer MORE, not less. So no, I don't think I could recommend this machine.

First off let me start by saying I am just an average consumer. We were adding a laundry room in our home and wanted a new washer and dryer. I had always just bough the cheapest top load washer with an agitator. I spent many hours reading reviews of the different types of top load and the front load washers before buying this set. To make this as short as possible this washer and the matching dryer are excellent. The washer undoubtedly cleans better than a top load. Really it does. It is a noticeably difference. It does take some getting used to. They operate much differently than a top load. Wash cycles do take a little longer but its worth it to get cleaner clothes. And yes the biggest con is the maintenance. You have to wipe down the seal every time you are finished using it. Its an extra task that I don't care for but I knew what I was getting into when I bought a front load. Its not hard to wipe down but its just an extra step. I would recommend to everyone who buys this front load or any front load to read the MANUAL. Its will tell you how to care for it. A lot of people who complain about mold and mildew probably does not do what the manufacturer recommends. Overall this washer has been excellent for us. Very happy thus far. Some cons: It is relatively noisy. All front loads sound like a jet engine on spin cycle. A way around that is to turn the spin speed down to medium instead of high or very high. For us it sits in a separate room down our hallway so its not a problem. But I wouldn't say its any louder than any other front load washer.

After much research (online, in-stores), we pulled the trigger and bought this LG washer. Space was a larger consideration and the LG washer and dryer were the shortest front tho back where it really counted for us. But that's not the only reason. No washer or dryer is perfect and none stack up to the quality of a 10 or 15 year old unit. Heck if you 7 to 8 years out of some of the units being sold today, consider yourself extremely lucky. With this in mind, LG has the lowest overall incident of repairs based on consumer reports. The washing machine is rating well for performance, not the highest but out performs many whirpool and maytag models. I liked the idea of the steam wash cycle. In reality, I'm not using it very much. The drain and filter clean out being located on the front is very handy for regular maintenance. As with any front load, you want to baby the unit. By that i mean, do not over fill the drum with clothes or heavy items. Do not over fill with soap. You'll want to keep a towel close by to dry the rubber seal when you are done with your loads of laundry for the day. I also recommend taking the liquid dispenser out, dump excess water and dry the tray and the chamber the tray fits into with the same towel. Of course leave the door and tray open to allow for further air drying. I know it sounds like a lot. However it's a couple minutes and should greatly reduce the mildew growth and smell. I've had the unit for about 2 months and still loving it.

The washer was amazing when first bought it, quiet, efficient, got the clothes clean. It broke two weeks before the warranty expired. I live in an area where there are no Authorized Technicians (the last one quit as he said "because they are the most are the most impossible company to deal with"). They keep emailing him our work order because that's who the system has as it's representative and there appears no way to change it. Anyway, their service is the worst experience I have ever been through. It's not even close. You call and there are perfectly nice people answering the phone who have no ability to help you what so ever. Our case keeps getting "escalated" and a promise of a call back that never happens. You talk to a supervisor, who promptly tells you all the right things and then never gets back to you as promised. You talk to another supervisor who says the same thing. Over and over, it goes. Unfortunalty we have lost patience and now have to go to our state's consumer protection bureau. Meanwhile, two months have gone by and we still don't have a washer.

I purchased a new LG washer and dryer a couple months ago and had it installed by the Geek Squad. The washer was malfunctioning on the first wash and had to be replaced. When the washer was replaced, something happened to the dryer and it had to be replaced. The original washer I purchased had been discontinued, so I had to get another version that does not match the washer. Also, they wanted me to pay the difference for the "upgraded" dryer. After complaining on why this was not acceptable, they conceded to eat the cost. When they came on yet another day to replace the dryer, they did not hook up the dryer to the waterline for the steam function to work. They returned yesterday for a fourth time to fix this issue. When they left, I had a minor meltdown because the washer didn't work. Luckily, it was just that they had not turned the waterlines back on. This has been the most frustrating purchase ever. I was out multiple days of work and so much time. All of my experiences talking to people about this problem were flippant at best. I will not be using Best Buy, Geek Squad, or any LG product in the future.

I needed to replace a 6 yr old Samsung front-loader (that came with our newer house and died 5 months after moving in) with another front-loader, or tear out counter top. I prefer top load and this front-load LG has not change my mind. Sometime things just aren't as clean as they should be, and I am getting spots on my clothes, which are not visible until they go through the dryer, which means it is either the soap or the fabric softener. I have tried using the "additional rinse" button, but it hasn't solved the problem, just used more water. I use the correct amount of liquid detergent and fabric softener, and err on the side of less. I do not overload the washer - usually dry clothes are loosely put in 1/2 to 3/4 full. I have also tried a variety of settings, but tend to use the cotton most of the time. I believe the washer simply skimps on water and slops the clothes around. If you buy it, would recommend buying the Best Buy Warranty just because the touch panel and motherboards that run it. The install guys were careful and did a great job. Guess I was spoiled by the Speed Queen at my old house. I will not get another front-loader.
