    Great Washer

I wanted a high efficiency washer to save on water and electricity. This one certainly uses less water and the extra high spin removes a lot of water from the clothes which helps reduce drying time in my electric dryer; thus, saving electricity.. It holds A LOT of clothes, but I do not fill it up because my dryer cannot hold all of them. I did not get the matching dryer since my old one is still working. But the clothes take a long time to dry because there are so many that it fills my dryer to the top. After the first couple of loads like that, I started to wash smaller loads. And this is still saving water because the machine adjusts the amount of water needed to wash just what you've put in. If you are used to a standard washer, this type of HE washer certainly does not wash the same at all. It senses/weighs the clothes before filling, then adds some water. It does this several times while in the wash cycle. Some reviews stated that the machine didn't add enough water, but I have found that it does, but it just takes it a long time because it doesn't do it all at once. There is also a Water Plus button to where extra water can be added, if you want. It takes much longer to wash; a normal cycle takes 90 minutes. I like how each cycle can be adjusted for various levels of soil and spin speeds, etc.. There is a Fabric Softener button to optimize the fabric softener effectiveness. I don't understand why that wasn't done as a default setting...who would want to minimize its effectiveness? Even so, with the Fabric Softener feature activated, it still does not do as good a job softening the clothes as my previous standard washer did. I like the automatic dispensing of detergent, bleach and softener. It was always difficult to remember to add those manually. The automatic drain is a good safety feature, but when I had to stop the washer and search for coins that I forgot to remove from a pocket, it drained before I could find them. Then I didn't know how to get more water back into the machine since the directions do not explain that. It eventually added more water later, but I added a few gallons of water myself with a bucket because I was afraid the wet clothes would be damaged without any water in the machine when it started agitating again. I like the WiFi capability where I can see how much time is left on the cycle from my smartphone and I can even start the machine remotely, if I need to. It's a good machine and has worked well so far. But I've only had it for a month.

"You must unlearn what you have learned" -Yoda

    • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase

Here's my understanding of HE washers: A bunch of engineers took your classic, old-school agitator washer and scienced the s**t out of it to make it as efficient as possible. As a result, how you use this modern marvel is fundamentally different. Read your owner's manual! Don't try and make this sleek, silver beauty wash your clothes like that rusty cr*p-o-matic you're getting rid of. Just follow directions, shut the lid and leave it alone. If you stand over this space ship of a washer and peer through the glass lid, your first thought will be "WTF is it doing to my clothes?!" Your old-school washer would just beat the h*ll out of your clothes and that made you feel like they were clean. After running one load empty to make sure it was "flushed out" we ran a load of clothes that we didn't feel were too dirty. The drainage water came out looking like the depths of a pit toilet. So, it definitely cleans clothes. The spin cycle is scary fast and gets things nice and dry. The drum is huge so you can wash that massive comforter your 3-year-old just threw up on. So, the washer has so far done what I bought it for, which is wash my clothes. It's super quiet and plays a curious little tune when it's done with a load. We'll see how long it lasts, you know they don't make things like they used to. Don't bother with the app, it's worthless. It's glitchy, it's a huge memory suck and all it's done is tell us when the laundry is done. If this 21st century technological triumph is still functioning in 10 years, I'll give it 5 stars. Stay tuned...

    Mixed Feelings

After reading some of the other reviews, I decided to buy this washing machine mainly because it was a very attractive price and the water company offers a $300.00 rebate. Comparable front loaders were much more expensive. The Good: 1.very good price + rebate 2. attractive appearance 3. after a careful reading of the manual and a couple tries, it's very easy to use. A few button pushes and you're set. 4. "normal" wash cycle is 58-60 minutes - longer than my old center agitator washer, but not bad. The Odd: makes odd clicking noises and jerking motions as it tries to estimate the load size to determine how much water to add. The noises are not loud and if you are easily amused, you may enjoy watching. Also, it plays a jaunty little tune when the wash is complete. The Bad 1. the instructions say to not load above the top of the drum which might cause one to think that the washer can handle a full load - it can't. After running a few tests of different amounts of clothes, I would suggest loading no more than 1/2 to 2/3 full, especially if washing large items such as jeans or jackets. There is not enough water and the agitator, being on the bottom, is a bit challenged. Bedding (including sheets) are best washed separately. For certain a queen size comforter (which does fit below the top of the drum without persuasion) will come out with undissolved detergent - even if you run it twice on the "bedding" setting. The "bedding" setting seems to increase the amount of water which would probably give a better result (although partially defeat the purpose of owning an HE washer), but I have not tested enough yet to be sure. 2. the washer is a little taller than traditional washers and the drum is wide and deep. If you are short, you may need a stool to reach to the bottom

    Quiet, washes very well, smart

We bought this washer in combination with the dryer. The panel is easy to use, although it can be a bit confusing at first (touching it is somewhere between buttons and a screen, so it feels a bit off the first few times). It cleans properly, even when you put it on delicate or cold. It also rinses very well, much better than the cheap one we used to have. What I like very much compared to the one we used to have, is that this one does a short test-cycle, wherein it makes sure the load is even enough during spins, and weighs what you have. It seems to determine the number of minutes based on that, so sometimes it will go down a lot, sometimes it will go up. I am also pretty sure it rinses longer if the weight is higher, and when you put it on bedding. It is also soooo much more quiet than the average washer. The test cycle does sound weird as it does certain drum motions for balance before going all-out into spinning. I definitely appreciate that it tests first, so it can warn us if it's not balanced enough. We have not had that pop up, yet, though. The drum is also plenty large for a queensize bedding, and I am pretty sure that a kingsize could fit in there as well. We have a beautiful quilted blanket that is between queen and king, and it fits in there without a problem. It also makes sure excess moisture has drained before you take it out, due to its dry spinning cycles. Compared to our previous cheap one, our clothes are not soaked when we put them in the dryer, but are just moist. It can connect to wifi through your tablet or smartphone (and warn you when its finished). Once it has connected, it stays connected and sends the info to the app on its own, even when you are not in the neighborhood. I use their signals to add up the times we used it, and then I can see how much electricity it uses compared to our previous older one.

    1. I got a very good price, especially if the water company provides the $300 rebate as advertised. 2. I was very satisfied with the delivery/installation. As for the washer itself: 3. Read the manual 1st and, unless you have exotic or custom settings, you just tap the control panel couple times and you're in business. 4. The washer drum is quite large. However, if you fill it more than 50-60% full, you may well not get a satisfactory wash due to insufficient water level. You may find this can be overcome somewhat by using the heavy duty or bedding cycle which seems to add extra water. Doing so, of course, means you will not receive the full HE benefit. 5. The wash time seems to vary. On normal load, it starts out saying it will take 58 minutes however when I time it, it is more like 42-3 minutes. Heavy duty and bedding settings take more time. 6. Others have commented on the odd noises and I agree. They are not loud, but it does do the most peculiar little dance - jerks, fits & starts, twirls - as it tries to determine how much water is required. 6. The spin cycle is quite fast, reducing drying time. I have not experienced any problems of spin cycle unbalance. 7. My old washer lasted about 25 years and was still working when I replaced it. I think a 25 year life cycle for the new unit may be optimistic. If I had the budget and space, I would probably have purchased a front loader. I think that would provide better results.

    Beware of the design defect

My WT7200CW is just over 1yr old. The pulsator keeps coming off during cycle. No matter how tight I thread it back, it always comes loose again. Flipping the pulsator back and having a close look I realize the female spline is completely worn out that the drive shaft cannot hold any more during cycle. The drive shaft is a metal piece while the pulsator is a plastic design; the metal for sure will wear out the plastic part easily. Kudos to LG, what a smart design! You just costed me over $700 for the washer, and over $200 to fix your design defect, which is only a few weeks past the 1yr warranty. Looks I'm not alone and this problem is quite persistent with LG top load wahers. Check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eKyo3Yvw3M Great job LG. I do recommend this washer to anyone who is rich enough and loves to spending money on fixing product with design defect.

Our washer broke down...and with 5 and 2 year old boys who think "mud is the greatest place on earth to play!", we obviously needed to get one...asap. We saw that this one was on sale and agreed the price is right. Although there were cheaper options from different mfrs, I urged my wife in this direction as our dryer is the same brand. I mean, come on, can you really have a washer/dryer combo that isn't the same!!!! According to her, you could. Lunacy! Either way, she agreed and when this arrived while I was at work, she said(get this), "you were right, this washer is awesome." Forget about the rest of the quote after the comma, I just got my wife to admit something that husbands rarely hear from their wives! But as her statement ended, so did my dreams of being right about a bigger tv. Honestly, this unit has a capacity that I have never seen before. I do laundry once a week(my wife does more...but it's kid clothes included) and it doesn't even fill this one up. Most importantly, great product at a decent price. I would highly recommend this to anyone who does large loads(children, comforter) as this will handle it all.

Should have bought this the first around

I should have bought this brand/style washing machine the first time around. I wanted a front loading washing machine and a dryer for a long time. Saving up for the machines I bought a pair of matching front loading Samsung washer and dryer. It was good for a short while until the washer had a catastrophic failure with the bearings giving out. I was lucky in that it was still under warranty, however it would cost more to fix it than it was worth. Samsung said it would send me check for what it was worth, not much. After reading reviews I chose the LG - 5.0 Cu. Ft. 8-Cycle Top-Loading Washer. Let me tell you it is HUGE. I had a lot of laundry to catch up on and filled the wash tube to the limit. Boy howdy it did the wash and it came out clean, now the down side, the amount of clothes it can wash is more than my dryer can handle efficiently so I may have to buy a new dryer, husband said no, just wash smaller loads, I know he’s right, but! The washer has plenty of cycles for different types of wash and at this point in time I am happier than before, I wish I went this route the first time.
