Overall, a good tv for our family room.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendOver the past few years, we've been replacing older tv's in our home with newer LED versions. This TV purchase replaced a 55" projection tv in our family room that was 12 years old that just wouldn't die. We've purchased Sharp and Samsung but LG had a hard to beat price point for the same features. I think Samsung is hard to match for picture sharpness but we're very satisfied with LG and would buy another. All 3 have been bought at Best Buy with extended warranties since we had a motherboard go bad the 2nd year with a earlier purchase of a different brand. That warranty saved us about $300.

Great picture for a great price
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendIf you're looking for a large TV with a very good picture without all the extra bells and whistles, then this is the TV for you. I was searching for a full HD TV with a 120Khz refresh rate for a wrote, but couldn't find one that want a smart TV with a bunch of extras that I would never use. Instead of using a smart TV I would suggest this TV paired with a Chromecast or a game console that you might already have for your streaming needs. You'll save yourself $100.

Simple, easy and good
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe TV is OK as it is, just a simple TV. For what I read in several reviews of "smart TVs", TV apps and control are poorly designed and just add cost to the TV. Better purchase a known reliable and simple TV and connect it to the internet with reliable equipment: I am using it with Roku and Chromcast. I also have it connected to a simple HD antenna; no need for expensive cable or satellite services!

Great Picture, Outstanding Price
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI went to the store looking for an HDTV with a maximum dimension for a particular cabinet in our condo and found this unit for a very reasonable price. The picture quality is outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone. Only drawback is the sound quality, which is weak, but since I planned on using a Zvoxx with it I didn't really care. It's also not a "smart" TV, but since my blue-ray player is "smart", there was no need. Good value.

Great Reception
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendMy last tv that was purchased as a cyberMonday 2012 special died in the middle of FIFA final. Can you believe it! I needed a new tv so I kept shopping online hoping to get a good tv and came across the LG 50LN5400. I was not sure why an LG would be so cost effective since I am very familiar with the brand and have always associated it as a higher end brand. The tv was so easy to set up that other than needing help lifting it I was able to do everything myself. The sound is fine since I live in a 1200sq ft townhouse. The resolution is great. There is no glare and my tv is adjacent to a large sliding glass door. I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it as a well-priced tv.

Amazing.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI got this TV on sale and i am quite satisfied with this TV. This was an unexpected purchase and it does its job perfectly. The picture is amazing on this and it puts my old Bravia to shame. Truly satisfied with this purchase and will recommend it to other people. It would have been better if it had at least one more HDMI input. All in all it does a remarkable job. This was my first LG product and i will look into getting other LG products in the future.

I love the image
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI use this as a super duper computer monitor and it makes surfing the web and streaming movies absolutely awesome. The colors are true and HD programming looks so clean and crisp. The colors are true. And of course video games look great on it as well. I didn't know I was missing so many details on my last television. As a filmmaker it's also a great monitor for seeing what you got and in a filming environment although I'm not sure that's the purpose LG had for it.

LG TV doesn't connect to VCR
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendMy old TV died so I had to replace it. I upgraded to a flat screen and went up significantly in size. However, the TV would not connect with my DVD player and VCR machine without a connector box. I also had to purchase a composite cable, which I was told in the store I did not need. Even with all this extra "stuff" I still have nto been able to get the VCr machine to work. I can play DVDs but am unable to record anything. I would like for electronic devices to be compatible with older devices as well as new.
Q: QuestionIs the frame around the screen black or silver? We had an LG TV selected but realized it didn't come with a black frame, only silver, so I want to be sure what color it is.

Q: QuestionLCD vs. LEDWhat's the difference?
Asked by Bill.
- A:Answer Hello Bill, Thank you for contacting us with regards to the differences between LCD and LED. So here is the big reveal, LED TVs are LCD TVs! The only difference is in the light source that each technology uses. The knock against LCDs has always been that they do not produce deep blacks because they use a CCFL (Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamps) which is always on causing the screen to be gray rather than the desired black. They are not many if any CCFL LCDs on the market now, but you may rarely run into one. LED TVs are really correctly called LED LCD TVs. It's just the LCD has now been dropped and people just call them LED TVs and these use LEDs (Red, Green, Blue) as their lighting source and because they have deeper blacks, the screens are brighter, more vivid colors, and thinner because LEDs do not require as much room as the CCFLs. LEDs consume less power, and can be turned on or off more easily to produce better contrast ratios and deeper blacks...IFV

Q: Questiondoes this tv have picture in picture
Asked by blackie.
- A:Answer Hi Blackie. The LG - 50" Class (49-1/2" Diag.) - LED - 1080p - 120Hz - HDTV, Model # 50LN5400 does not have picture in picture. That feature is not featured in current TVs anymore. It required having 2 tuners in the unit which was costly, but believe it or not, there wasn't that big a demand for it so most if not all manufacturers discontinued it. You will find the feature on monitors, but not on TVs...IFV
