Comparing units available in this price range, I'd say this is the best out there. So why not a 5 star rating? It's not as good as the 10-year old Maytag French Door unit we replaced that cost $500.00 less. Features we like are the double ice makers and the keep it cool right door access to side shelves. However, the side shelves are not adjustable and most of the shelves are very narrow and not deep. So while one does not lose main refrigerator space with the door ice and water feature, storage space is sacrificed in the doors. Small hot dog relish, creamer or parmesan containers fit snuggly. Milk and juice fit nicely in the keep it cool shelves--this is a nice feature. The left door panel "thingy" that many reviewers complain about jarring, is from our experience not a new irritation. Our 10 year old Maytag had the same issue. Keeping the door alarm on will annoyingly alert you of the situation, if the fact that the door jumps back isn't enough The button to open the keep it cool door is plastic, I can see this wearing. We placed protective plastic tape that came with the unit on it. A shame for the price, that this is made cheaply. The interior keep it cool door does fly open when the door closes because food stored shifts. I haven't accessed from the interior so I'll probably tape that, too. Bad design. The deli drawer was my must have. While comparably priced units skimp on the depth of this feature, LG is only marginally larger when compared to the unit replaced. It's not as high, or deep. Sizable to meet our needs. If you have counters on either side be prepared to have to cut them down a bit so the drawer fully opens, or get a smaller unit. The interior shelving is fine and adjustable. Space is comparable to others. The lighting is perfect for these aging eyes. At first the three drawer produce section is overkill, but now I am liking it. The smaller middle drawer is perfect for smaller items that used to get lost in a two drawer-- garlic bulbs, herbs, etc. . . While this unit is 4 cubic larger than our other , most of the added space is in the freezer unit, which we absolutely love. Good design, plenty of space and adjustable. Having the extra ice bin is not just a bonus-- it's essential if you entertain or pack coolers. The door unit provides enough ice for daily drinking. Both ice makers are quick. We did not have any funky tasting ice or water, since we our water line was not new, and we ran water per the instructions before making ice. The controls on the door panel are easy to work and have a locking feature. The panel displays the set temperature, but not the actual temperature. Overall, it is a solid 4 star for the price range. Expect that parts are cheaper than in the past and cost more. Something I have issue coming to terms with. Other comparable units were woefully cheap for nearly the same price and a few less features. .

Great capacity and ice making refrigerator

This refrigerator is outstanding. It has a lot of space and an in-door ice making machine. The in-door ice making machine makes less ice than the bulkier Samsung ones that occupy a large space on the top most shelve, but however, LG has incorporated a secondary ice making machine inside the freezer to make up for it. You do have the option to not use and turn off the secondary ice maker, take out the ice bin and have additional space in the freezer. I however, with a big family use both machines. I can see a family of 4 or 5 using only the top one just fine. The water dispenser is at the top most outer part of the console to accommodate tall pitchers and both water and ice dispense only when activated compared with other refrigerators which continue to drip 1 or 2 drops of water or have a small water leakage from ice left over in the dispense. This LG has none of that, so it's always clean in the bottom catch-all. It is very well lighted and shelves can organized as you like. The inside deli drawer has 3 temperature settings to chose from to accommodate your needs. The door in door design helps with saving energy as only a smaller portion is accessed when getting daily essentials i.e. milk, juice, etc. thus having less cold air leak out. I was skeptical in having this door in door as there is an inside see through door that serves to maintain the cold air inside when the outside door in door is opened because my thought was the products placed in this door wouldn't be cold or cool since the barrier was there. That is not the case. Products inside here are just as cool as any other one inside the fridge. The only con to this refrigerator is it's ability to attract smudges. They clean right off easily, but it is the only downside compared to other fridges. However, don't let this con drive you away, there are many great things going on for this fridge.

      Buyer Beware

I bought the LG - Door-in-Door 28.6 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator on 4/22/17 and on 5/27/17 the freezer stopped working. There was no warning, no alarms and no error messages on the front panel...I opened up the freezer and everything within the freezer had thawed and the ice had melted, thank goodness the refrigerator was still cold. This was Memorial Day weekend and we were set to have several parties but now without a freezer. So I reached out to LG's (800) number and I received the worst customer service one could expect for a less than a month old refrigerator. When I called LG Customer Service I was told that they could not get anyone out to repair my unit until 5/31, then on 5/29, I received a call from the repair company letting me know that they do not service my area. When I asked the repair company why they were calling me and not LG, they told me that when they called LG that LG told them to contact me and ask me to call back into LG to request another repair company. Like I want to call back into LG at this point. Back to my original call to LG Customer Service on 5/27, when I asked about how LG was going to cover me for the lost items within my freezer, they let me know that their warranty doesn't cover lost food items due to their refrigerator not working. When I asked to talk to a supervisor I was forwarded to Cathy (she was not allowed to give me her last name per their policy) and she told me that she could extend as much as $150 for any food lost. After I mentioned that $150 would not cover the lost food, I asked to talk to her supervisor and she let me know that I could not speak with anyone from LG higher than herself, it was policy that customers that have customer satisfaction issues can not talk to any executives or leave messages and expect a return phone call from LG executives. If this is the type of service you can expect from LG when a product of theirs is less than a month old, how can anyone expect for LG to stand by any of their products or by their customers no matter how old the product is. I can not recommend LG

We were excited about this one cause it was replacing a 10 yr old fridge. We looked at a couple of models and decided that this was a good fit for us. Yes it has more that enough space. But the configuration leaves a lot to be desired. The slide in shelf is way too easy to retract. If you are reaching for something on the shelf right blow it and accidentally push it in you risk spilling everything that is placed on the retractable shelf. Happened twice already. This shelf should lock in place to avoid spills. The large lower drawer, should be split into 2 drawers because you cannot pull it out without opening bot doors??? Of course it was an awsome feature until we got around to using it. That's when we discovered the reality of it. Oh well.. now the door within a door feature (right side door). Some times it takes a good amount of force to make sure it closes right. The inside plastic see thru door often opens by itself if you slam the door also. When you open the right side door it flaps around inside and I fear eventually it's gonna break, so I suggest the warranty. When you open the left side door it it has a flap that seals between doth doors. Sometimes you open that left side door and when you try to close it, the flap remains in the closed position and then you have to manually flip it to the open position so it will close right if not it will jam in between the door and remain open. This us definitely a design flaw and will probably end up eventually breaking at some point. Again i cant stress it enough "get the warranty." This is about all that I have encountered as an inconvenience with this unit, but other than that it is great. Lots of space, love the double icemaker, and the energy star rating is great. Apparently it has wifi to let you know if there are any issues or if somethimg needs repair. I Still have not had to use this feature, but I think when and if it ever breaks down I'll just call the bestbuy warranty team and let them figure it out. For the one I could see myself rethinking this purchase. But like all things it will probably grow on me. Good luck.

      Beware LG's linear compressor

This refrigerator uses a linear compressor, which LG has used for the last 7-8 years. The compressor appears to have a high failure rate (in the 3-6 year range). Even though the compressor is warranted for 10 years, if the compressor goes after 1 year and you don’t have an extended warrantee, the bill for repair is in the $800-1000 range despite LG providing the compressor. To our dismay as well, the compressor in our 5 year French door refrigerator failed catastrophically and there was acidic oil and metal filings (evidently from the compressor) injected into the coolant tubes which cannot be adequately cleaned or replaced. The LG certified repairman recommended replacement as he could not in good faith recommend repairing it, However, since the refrigerator was over 1 year old, LG offered no compensation whatsoever. The entire process was lengthy (more than 6 weeks – initially waiting for parts and then LG recommendations as to what to do), only for us to learn we are in need of a new refrigerator. By email or telephone everyone appears to be clueless as to what was going on and the buck seems to be passed along to various departments, and a clear answer is never forthcoming. The goal of the support service appears to be to frustrate you enough so that you stop trying to contact them. There are many repair forums with similar stories. I would strongly discourage anyone from buying any LG refrigerator with a linear compressor.

Was great for the first 18 months

I bought this for my mother-in-law as a gift. We have the exact same model for our house so my mother-in-law wanted the same one. We love the features. Double ice maker, water dispenser, door in door, bright LED lighting, plenty of storage that makes sense. Top ice maker in door and not taking up storage space like the other brands. quiet. Why the bad rating? About 18 months of owning it the compressor died. We didn't buy the extended warranty from Best Buy so we had to deal with LG's warranty service. The good news was the compressor was covered but the bad news is that the installation was not. We spent an additional $600 for installation due to the complexity of these newer refrigerators. That wasn't the bad part. The compressor was shipped out from out of the country which took 2 weeks plus the certified LG installer couldn't come out for an additional 2 weeks prior to diagnose the issue. Luckily my mom kept her old refrigerator as a back up but she was out a fridge for a month. We asked the Best Buy rep what the options were and he tried calling LG for us but their hands were tied. The Best Buy associate said next time for big ticket purchases like this buy the service plan because they will just replace the fridge with a brand new one. Lesson learned. Also, the service tech did state that LG compressor's are notorious for failing but he did say the quality of LG fridges are much better than almost all other brands. I'm thinking "quality is better" then why are you replacing the compressor? No problems since the compressor was replaced but the hassle of servicing one of these are a pain in the behind. BUY THE EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING THIS.

      Love this Refrigerator

      • My Best Buy® Elite Plus MemberElite Plus Member

Only have had for 1 week but the initial impression is fantastic. Visually it is kitchen Art, and the interior LED lighting is incredible and appealing. Love the door in door feature. So much space accessible. It is SO, SO quiet. I have listened to see if it is running even!! The only sound I ever hear at all is the very muffled sound of the ice dropping to fill the bins (and it is not loud) and then the brief filling of the ice trays with water lasting about 5 secs. Both ice makers have functioned flawlessly. Actually have not have to even use the ice from the one in the freezer but the bin stays full. Water dispenser is great, immediate and no dripping. Ice is available immediately from the dispenser. It is just the 2 of us most of time but use ice several times a day. Temps are excellent. the temp in the door in door is a bit lower but very adequate for cold milk, etc. I do like to open the door in door carefully so that rough use will not shorten the life of the door button release, and really see no need to access the door in door area by the press release on the clear panel inside which again if treated roughly would not be good. Maybe unnecessary caution but.. I had a 1/2 in hard copper tube water line installed with shut off value right behind the refrigerator and then purchased the flexible metal line from Best Buy to connect the the refrigerator. I had read that this is better than a saddle value for water pressure and long term functioning. Also some have commented that wished it had another folding shelf for more tall items. I could see this but I have not had an issue, but the shelves are each individually adjustable so works great for us. I have thought that could probably purchase another LG folding shelf, but then that would be some extra money, but something to think about. Lastly I have to give a thumbs up to the installers contracted by my Best Buy to deliver. They were fantastic, and moved my old side by side down to the basement which was a bit of a pain. I could not be happier at this point with this Fridge.

      Best Fridge Ever

After 9 years with our Whirlpool which was a great fridge, we realized we had just outgrown it. This amazing french-door model was the answer. The inside is massive. The shelves, although glass, are sturdy and don't feel like they'll bend or crack. The one that rolls back is handy for taller items. You can put a whole pizza in it and it fits. (That's my kids' favorite feature) The ice maker is great -- makes plenty of ice BUT when you first get it, expect about the first 4 weeks to have the ice smell and taste like the new plastic water hose. It's not bad or dangerous, but it does taste a bit funny. Once the hose has "broken in" the ice tastes fine. The second ice bin in the freezer portion is great! You won't run out of ice at family gatherings. The ice and water dispenser on the front work great. The freezer is roomy -- I love that I can see everything in my freezer -- a huge benefit so food doesn't go to waste due to freezer burn because it's buried under something. And the sliding drawer above the main freezer is perfect for stuff you use every day. Besides the extra ice bucket, I find it's a great place for all the frozen breakfast foods for busy school mornings. But I've saved our favorite feature for last... the Cold Saver "door in a door" feature is fabulous. It lets you access drinks like milk, sodas, tea, etc without opening the whole fridge. But if you open the fridge, that area is easily accessed from the back side of the door. Soooo much less time with the door standing open while the kids figure out what they want to drink. The fridge is quiet too, I never even hear when the ice maker makes ice. So far we are loving this!!
