The Logitech M705 Marathon mouse has about 8 different functions and most of them are programmable or you can just disable a function if you prefer, thru the driver software. I disabled the three buttons that are in the area of my right thumb, I am right handed...so I did not accidentally hit them, while I was getting use to the mouse. The one feature I really like on this mouse is the option to have a "free wheeling" scroll wheel. You can click on the button just behind the scroll wheel and toggle the scroll wheel so it is "free wheeling" and smooth with no feeling of "detents" and is extremely fast or you can use the same button to toggle it to create the familiar "detent" scroll wheel feel which also tells the scroll wheel to move just the number of lines you have set it for (within the driver software) to move in the scroll area...3 lines per detent is usually the default. Sometimes in free wheeling mode the area scrolled will drop (scroll) back down somewhat when you are trying to stop the scrolling motion and you have to move the scroll wheel up a little more to position it back to where you wanted it, but when you get used to the sensitivity of the movement on the scroll wheel it is acceptable. I love the free wheeling mode when I am 10 or twelve pages down in an article or reading reviews and I what to get back to page one I just give that wheel a sharp finger flick and away it goes, no more pawing at the scroll wheel moving the usual defaulted three lines at a time. But if I need or want the detents back...I just press the toggle button...quick and easy ! I have medium to large size hands and this mouse fits my hand like it was custom made just for me. I got this just before Christmas 2017 at a really good price of $19 dollars!

I purchased this mouse to replace the rope-a-dope $20 mice they were providing me at work. For not much more than that, I got a nice wireless mouse (that hasn't run out of batteries since purchase so far). The Marathon has a great feel and heft in hand, which lends to a good impression of high build quality (I'm not taking it apart to verify though). I appreciated the very small size of the wireless dongle (it protrudes about 4 mm), I left it plugged into the side of my laptop for several weeks, and it never caught on anything. The primary right, middle, and left buttons have a nice tactile response. I feel the forward/back buttons on the side of the mouse are slightly small and hard to hit, but not enough such that I feel that it requires deducting points for the mouse's design. The infinite scroll feature on the mouse-wheel is great when navigating large data structures, and even when in normal mouse-scroll mode, the wheel has a great weight and feel to it. Since I use this mouse at work, I can't really speak to it's gaming performance, but I would say that I generally prefer a mouse with a larger size and shape for gaming purposes. As the Marathon mouse is nominally targeted at mobile usages, its size is slightly smaller than a "standard" size mouse. Overall, I find using this mouse to be a huge step up in experience over the previous mice I was using at work. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a compact, long-lasting wireless mouse.

    Hated this mouse

My Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 finally stopped working, and I decided to buy this mouse because of the hyper scrolling feature and three year battery life. I ended up hating everything else about it. After two hours of use, my hand was starting to cramp up from using it. I learned in those two hours that the laser sensor did not compare at all with the optical sensor I was accustomed to using. In addition, I learned that the sensor was set all the way to the left of the mouse making it extremely difficult to control precisely after always having used a mouse with a centered sensor. The acceleration also felt extremely odd. The wheel on the mouse, as much as I liked how the low friction scrolling felt, was horribly inaccurate. Setting the wheel into its click spin mode, it would scroll through pages SLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWLLLLLYYYYY at 1 line per click. I tried to changing it to 2 and 3 lines per click, but then there was just not enough precision for me. After those issues, I downloaded and installed the SetPoint program from Logitech to see if it would allow me to fix any of the issues and to try out the side buttons. First of all, DO NOT USE THE ZOOM FEATURE ON THE DESKTOP! It made all my icons bigger really quickly because I had the hyper scroll on, and my desktop ended up a big mess. Other than that, the options for the programmable buttons seemed okay. There were some options for changing the sensor and wheel sensitivity, but neither really fixed any of the issues I was having. I was just given different kind of issues with the scrolling becoming faster, but I would have to move up or down two or three times before a page I was looking at online would actually start to move. The sensor on the other hand would just not feel right no matter what acceleration (none, low, mid, or high) and sensitivity I would choose. I'm returning this mouse and looking for a larger one with a centered optical sensor.

    Absolute JUNK

Frustrating POJ...Ripping open the sealed plastic package is the only thing that works with this product, because of the pre-cut opening. That doesn't matter, because the product doesn't work: Popped the included batteries into the mouse (correctly), and inserted it's USB dongle into a USB slot. Windows reports it didn't install correctly and the device may not work properly. No kidding, because - in addition - no light emanates from the "high performance laser" (that's what's printed on it, no kidding!) I then tried three other slots with the same abysmal install results. After turning the mouse on/off switch on, to see if - at least - the laser in the mouse made light, I was right about that suspicion too. Dead donkey. I measured the batteries voltage which was fine, and even tried other, new batteries without any improvement. I returned this POJ, and went back to open another one in the store, going through all the same steps (except the USB dongle). That laser was dead too! The entire box of mouses don't work. No wonder this is on sale. In fact, Costco and Logitech should PAY ME for my time and gas wasted on this stupid product trying to get one to work. Using a ten year old mechanical mouse for now, made when products weren't complete fails, until I can order a simple, $2 wired, optical mouse. DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS JUNK! This posting will end up on my ten global consumer websites in four languages (read by about 310,000,000 readers) as a prominent Southern California Consumer Advocate.

This mouse was purchased a month ago for $30 and has been in use ever since. I spent a lot of (too much) time looking at wireless mice to replace an 8-year old wireless MS Mouse 5000. While the MS mouse was still working, it didn't have the hyper-fast scrolling of the M705 and 8-years is a long time for a mouse. The M705 fits my hand superbly, better than the MS mouse. The fit of the MX Master (latest top of the line Logitech mouse) in my hand was not nearly as good as the M705, either. So the main thing I like about this mouse is the fit. It's only for us right-handers, though, so you south paws are OOL. The hyper-fast scrolling worked quite well, and while I usually don't use it, when I do it works quite well. The battery life hasn't been tested yet (it's supposed to be three-years) but I full well expect that it will be more than adequate even though I never turn the mouse off using the power switch on the bottom. The mouse is used at my work desk and doesn't get moved around. If I'd planned to use this as a portable mouse, I'd have purchased a smaller mouse than this. All told this is definitely a 5-star mouse. The worst thing I can say about it is that the software to fully configure it must be downloaded from the web and this didn't go smoothly for me. While Logitech's tech support was ultimately helpful, the guy I dealt with in Bangalore was as thick as a brick and only able to read from his script; he had no real clue of what he was talking about.

    Overall Happy with Mouse But...

Happy with the m705 so far (only had for a day). Gripping and scrolling is smooth and effortless, feels good in the hand due to ergonomic shape. I like the toggle switch to allow scroll wheel to momentum scroll for faster scrolling. However, two negatives for me are: 1) you need a mousepad if using the product on a wood surface; I've never experienced that before with an optical mouse; and 2) forget about using an older logitech keyboard with the unifying software, it doesn't pick it up; I'm stuck having to plug in 2 USB adapters - 1 for the keyboard and 1 for the new mouse which completely defeats the purpose of the Unifying software/hardware technology built in. Unfortunately I paid for it and will not be able to take adantage w/o buying a new keyboard which I will not do. This is why I am not giving this product 5 stars. Cost is on par with other similar-featured mice and won't break the bank. I would recommend this to a friend - especially if he/she can take advantage of the Unifying technology.

Original Version Is Great, This One Is Too

I still own and use the original version of the M705 with the longer USB receiver. It has taken a lot of abuse over the years and still works, even though a few times I thought it was dead from being dropped about three feet onto a hardwood floor. It just keeps on working. I wanted the newer version with the nanoreceiver/transmitter to use in more portable laptops. This M705 mouse is the most ergonomically comfortable mouse I have ever used. It's perfect for my hand. I don't particluarly like the free-wheeling scroll wheel (not enough control using it), and I find myself going back and forth between it and the clicking scroll wheel. Fortunately, the toggle switch is right on the top of the mouse for easy access. The old version had a sort of rotating/sliding switch that provided a variable degree of tension that provided more control. The new mouse is either free-wheeling or clicking. Logitech should bring that variable feature back. Battery life is significantly better in the new version--thank you for that! The on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse is much better than the old version. Now it's a simple slide switch. All of the buttons are customizable using the Logitech software, but the mouse can be used "generically" if you want. Maybe one day Logitech will add some cool colors for this model. They could probably sell a lot more if they did. But for comfort and functionality, this is definitely my #1 preferred mouse for home/work use. Thanks to Best Buy for still carrying it.

    Almost Perfect

Purchased this mouse for my Macbook Pro to replace the horrible Magic Mouse. I mainly got this mouse for the long-lasting battery feature but was really pleased to see that it has so many other useful features for a Mac: 1. Brings back "right-click" (thank goodness) 2. Has a hidden thumb button that launches Mission Control 3. The scroll wheel can scroll left to right by pushing the wheel to either side 4. Control Center app allows you to configure almost every aspect of the mouse With all those positives you might be wondering why only 4 stars. The answer is due to an "over-active" scroll wheel. The scroll wheel seems to be mounted on bearings which although super-smooth, makes the wheel extremely sensitive. If I barely nudge my desk the wheel moves causing the page to scroll down. You can lower the speed of the scrolling but that doesn't change how physically sensitive the wheel is to movement so every few minutes I experience some ghost-movement where the page scrolls in a way that I didn't intend it to. Other than the scroll issue the mouse has so much more functionality than any Apple Mouse. Next time I get a mouse I will probably look for one that does not have the Hyper scroll wheel.
