      You had one job!

This keyboard had one job: Stay connected to the computer. All other functions are secondary, as no connection means it is totally useless. Thanks to the wonders of BlueTooth, the worlds crappiest wireless technology, connecting (and re-connecting) your keyboard is likely to be a pain. Microsoft has chosen to do things differently than every other BT device ever invented, by doing away with a pairing mode. Is it ready to pair? Who knows! In another stunning move, they decided that knowing the battery level of your battery-powered device wasn't an important feature. You don't even get a 'low power' warning. The keyboard simply stops working when it is time to charge it. Speaking of charging it, the lack of battery level means you get to play another fun guessing game I like to call "Is it actually charged yet?" After leaving mine plugged in overnight, the answer today was 'no!' 14 hours isn't long enough. I got half a day of function, only to return from a trip to find that the keyboard was unresponsive. The flashy feature on this keyboard is the fingerprint reader, and it's neat until it quits working without explanation. The funny thing is, when it did work, it always took longer to use than just typing in a PIN. First, you have to hit a random key several times to 'wake' the keyboard from its battery-saving slumber. Then you get to press the fingerprint button in the hopes that the keyboard is actually awake and ready. And speaking of sleep, this keyboard conks out after a few minutes, at which point you need to press a key repeatedly to wake it again. But wait, there's more! It often wakes with a modifier key 'stuck.' You learn all kinds of cool things that happen when your shift key is secretly being held down. Loads of fun! Pros: -Looks slick! -Keys feel and type just fine -Lock key, cool! -Clear key on keypad, cool! -Dedicated calculator key, cool! Cons: -Dificult to connect sometimes. -Totally random battery life (works for days at a time, then can't seem to hold a charge for half a day) -No battery life indication in software or hardware that I can find. -No back-lighting. Kinda stupid for a keyboard this expensive to skip on that. -Sleep/wake problems that really slow your workflow down.

Love the build quality, nice and sturdy and the "chill" of the aluminum feels very high quality. I have no complaints about the key travel/sound/feel etc. I am a little curious to see if they start to look dirty fast being lighter keys, but so far so good after about 3 weeks. I love that its a Bluetooth keyboard so I don't need to bother with a USB receiver, and that it's USB rechargeable with the built in battery. My only complaints are: - It's so narrow it makes it a little harder to use on your lap (I like to lean back in my office chair and type with it on my lap from time to time). - The indicator lights in the caps lock etc keys are just a hair too dim to be obvious at a glance under my bright office lighting. I get that they tried to find the fine line between bright enough to be noticeable and too bright to be energy efficient, so it will last as long as it oes on each charge. But, I'd prefer if it was user selectable (even if it was merely a radio button to choose "normal" and "high" brightness) giving me the option to need to recharge a little more often if I so choose. Ultimately, no regrets at this time but see some potential for slight improvements and maybe they'll even address the indicator light issue in a future software update.

      Excellent Keyboard

I have both versions of this keyboard, and love the quality and feel. This version has a wired & BT wireless connection which is really nice. I needed wired for my work computer. Still wish they made a non-bluetooth wireless version. This is a very nice sleek keyboard, taking up minimal desk space. It's very solid and responds well. The really cool feature on this keyboard is the built in fingerprint scanner. It works extremely well and is fast and very reliable. What's really nice is that the scanner is built into a key, so you wouldn't even know it was there unless you knew about it. Great job Microsoft! Best keyboard on the market without a doubt. Nothing is even close. I was hoping I could use the fingerprint scanner on conventional applications and websites, but the software around the keyboard doesn't exist yet. For now I use it for MS apps, which are few and far between, and login. I run this keyboard on Windows 10, and the other version of this keyboard on Linux. Pleased with my purchase overall. Most excellent keyboard!

I really enjoy this keyboard. The key travel isn't very deep, but it has very nice feedback. The keys are spaced nicely so I can type quickly on it with very few errors. I like that it can be used via Bluetooth or wired. I haven't had any issues with the fingerprint reader in the weeks that I've used this keyboard. All shortcuts and function keys worked out of the box (I did need a update before Windows Hello would work though). This physical size is pretty small compared to other full sized keyboards, so if desk space comes at a premium or you just want a minimal look this is a great option. The gripe that I have is that there is no back lighting. I knew this before buying, but I still see people asking if it has it a lot online.

      Awesome Keyboard But Pricey

I hesitated because of the price but bought it anyway because of the reviews. I have to say I'm glad I bought it. Its made of metal and the keys just feel very comfortable and a lot quieter than the Logitech keyboard I was using prior. Its size is perfect in my opinion and since its wireless it can be all over your desk. I did have some trouble connecting it to my desktop (via Bluetooth) but finally got it connected. The reason for the 4 stars is I wish the fingerprint reader could provide more than just logging into windows. I hope an app or something is released that would allow logins for websites, etc.

I bought this thinking that I would be able to lock apps in windows and unlock it with fingerprinting button but no. This is only good for Windows Logon. Once you're logged in then this is worthless. The feel of the keyboard is awesome BTW. It looks good with black monitor or white (of course). The buttons feel great. Button feel like rubber but its not rubber. It just feels wonderful. I don't remember using a keyboard that looked and feel as good as this keyboard.

I might have a crush on this keyboard. I'm a writer, so I type all day. Keyboard comfort is essential. This one is probably my favorite keyboard ever. The keys are crisp and clicky with great travel. My accuracy seems much better on this one than my previous Logitech. The fingerprint is a great addition to bring Windows Hello (which I love on my Surface Book 2) to my desktop. It's pricey, but I have no complaints so far.

I love this keyboard mainly because of the shortcut keys. (Calculator, Minimize All, Notifications, Lock) The lock is my favorite. All keyboards should have a key to lock the pc. The minimize all is like a built in panic button. Hit it once to minimize all open windows, hit it again to restore the windows. My only wish is that the keys were backlit. I would trade the wireless feature for backlit keys.
