This film got a lot of flack from fans NOT used to a real movie that isn't all explosions and violence -- in other words, the DBZ crowd! If you've had siblings, you can relate to this film. Only-children may have an issue and not get this film.
If you like science fiction issues and can deal with alternate realities and timelines, you'll like this film, too. It's a bit of a "head game" film but there is a point to this film about uncomfortable changes and accepting new roles in life.
I won't give away the ending but let's say it's nice to have a film where the leads aren't Mary Sue's/Gary Sue's for a change. There was a progression in this film and a genuine change in the leads...
Love to this film about a spoiled papered kid who feels neglected when his parents have a new baby. The story is told with a lot of imagination and emotion. The animation is beautiful. especially the part where a character runs through a cornfield at sunset. The animation and art is breathtaking.
Mirai is another wonderful from Mamoru Hosoda. Our family own most of them: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006), Summer Wars (2009), Wolf Children (2012), and The Boy and the Beast (2015). These are all wonderful stories that often don't really have a good - bad conflicts.
Mirai and her brother are in conflict, normal brother-sister conflict. It is fun, exciting, and touching to see their story: the whole family's story grow into understanding.
