Ever since I was a kid, Disney has never failed to amaze with their films. The animation is always brilliant. The stories are always moving. And, if it's a musical, the songs are always ingenious. And now, they have created their best Disney Princess film ever: "Moana"! This film follows Disney's very first Polynesian princess (technically, not a princess though. Although, apparently, "if you wear a dress and you have an animal sidekick, you're a princess. ), voiced beautifully by newcomer Auli'i Cravalho, who teams up with the larger-than-life demigod Maui, voiced by the larger-than-life Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, to resolve the mysterious rift between man and nature and revive the ancient art of wayfinding. Along the way, she also seeks the one thing she has sought out her whole life: her identity. Like how Maui could go on and on explaining every natural phenomenon, I could go on and on explaining how this film is nothing less than PERFECT. The story is incredibly moving and thought-provoking. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foa'i team up to bring us a soundtrack that deserves at least 10 Oscars. The cast is not only brilliantly assembled; most of them come from Polynesian roots (Auli'i Cravalho is a native Hawaiian, Dwayne Johnson's ancestors are Samoan, Temuera Morrison hails from New Zealand); in fact, the only cast member who is not Polynesian is Alan Tudyk, but only because he voices Hei Hei the rooster. The animation and character design is some of the finest I have ever seen in a Disney computer-animated film... Honestly, if I went any more into detail about how this film is my absolute favorite of 2016, we'd be here all day. So, in short, Disney's 56th animated movie is an instant classic and will no doubt go down in history. This film is a must-see for all Disney fans, young and old. It's yet another brilliantly gleaming gem in the Disney Animation canon!

In a film where 85-90% of on screen time is primarily 2 characters, those two had better have some awesome chemistry between them to carry the film. In this case, the chemistry was okay, but not awesome. There are two other characters, but they scarcely count. One of the other two characters to share most of the screen time is a chicken too stupid to know not to walk right into a fire. It is a running joke more than a true character. The fourth character to share most of the screen time is the water (in the form of a mute, tongue-shaped blob of aqua). It has no face, no body and no voice. Not a lot of emoting is possible from such a character. So, the two main characters must carry the entire film on their own and are barely up to the task. The music has grown on me since my first viewing (with kids around, I'm sure to see it many more times yet) and I'm now a fan of some of the songs. The visual artistry, as always with Disney, is pure eye candy. It's a very impressive movie to look at and a pretty decent Disney film in the end, just not one of my all time favorites.

"Moana" is also a Disney production (its 56th), and is a computer animated film telling the story of a strong-willed daughter of a Polynesian tribal chief named Moana who sets sail across the Pacific in search of the legendary demigod Maui to save her people. Moana is perfectly voiced by 14-year-old Hawaiian high school freshman Auli'i Cravalho with Dwayne Johnson surprisingly cast as the voice of the god Maui. Based on Polynesian mythology stories, this is an amazing movie with wonderful songs and astonishing visuals that help to make it an extremely moving film experience for adults as well as children. It's unlikely this will beat "Zootopia" for the Oscar, but its beauty will probably leave viewers with a superior visual impression. (One strange footnote: in some European countries, the title and protagonist were renamed 'Vaiana' due to a copyright problem over a cosmetic company that owns the use of the name 'Moana'. In Italy the change was made due to a more serious problem: to avoid any association with a deceased adult actress named Moana Pozzi.)

This is an absolute beautiful Steelbook. The artwork is colourful and the case itself well made and sturdy. If reviewing solely on the case I would rate 5*. The movie was a tad bit disappointing for me so that's why I didn't rate 5*. It was far from bad, but to me is a bit of a departure from the classic Pixar movies like Cars and Monster's Inc. It felt more like a musical than a true Pixar movie and that kinda hampered the experience for me. It seemed every time the story got going they'd have to stop the action for a big song moment. The musical aspects have always annoyed me on the (Disney) cartoons and for the most part has been avoided in the Pixar films up to this realease. Really hoping this isn't a sign of things to come from Pixar as the formula they've had up to this point has produced some classic movies. As I said, it's still a good movie, but probably my least favourite offering from Pixar. If you have seen the movie and like it and can still get your hands on the Steelbook you won't be disappointed! This is no doubt the best way to own the movie.

Parents need to know that Moana is an animated Disney adventure about a Polynesian island chief's daughter who sets off on a quest to save her people. With Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson voicing demigod Maui and a score that features original music by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie should appeal to viewers of all ages. Scary, perilous scenes include run-ins with frightening, violent monsters (one made of lava, the other a giant crab) and with ocean storms and waves. Characters also go up against a ship full of adorable (but armed) coconut pirates, a character dies (offscreen), and a couple of male authority figures yell at Moana. There's also a bit of language along the lines of "butt" and "dumb." Otherwise, the movie should be fine for younger viewers, offering positive messages of self-discovery and empowerment. And Moana herself is a great role model, demonstrating perseverance, curiosity, and courage.

I actually wanted Best Buy's 3D Steelbook of Moana. Really wish Best Buy would limit the quantity of these limited edition blu-ray sets an individual can purchase. It's not right for resellers to grab all available copies (online and in the physical stores) only to turn around and sell them on Ebay for sky high prices. Anyway, I'm glad the 3D Steelbook was still available online. The cover artwork is quite nice, consistent with the beautiful animation in the movie. It's really nice to see Walt Disney Studio Animation releasing animated features to compliment the features from Pixar. Disney animation has such a legendary reputation of spectacular quality. After a bit of a lull, Frozen, Zootopia and Moana are returning them back to the top. Moana is a feast for the eyes with its rich color palette. Also, be sure to check out the bonus features on the new computer effects developed for Moana, especially giving water a personality. The features give you an even greater appreciation for the animators!
