I'm very satisfied with this purchase. The device is very anestheticly pleasing, for starters. It also has notches for wall mounting. But on top of that, it was very easy to get set up, having pleanty of information in the box to help us out if we had questions. Last and most importantly, the functionality of it has been outstanding. I've had fast and reliable internet ever since I installed this device. My old router had a hard time sending a signal to the furthest rooms of my home, especially when the doors were shut, but this one has strong, consistent signal throught my home, regardless of obstacles.

This was my first Netgear router. I’ve had their switches and have never had issue with them so when it came time to retire my old Asus router I thought I’d give the Nighthawk line a try. For background, I prefer to manually configure as many settings as possible (e.g. Operating Systems, network equipment, printers…). Netgear really wants you to configure the routers using their mobile app. For many this is great option. I proceeded to the web interface which automatically redirects you to https://routerlogin[.]net. Until it’s completely configured the routers admin console is internet accessible. Great for convenience, not ideal for security. I like that there a speed test from the mobile app and console. It’s actually testing the bandwidth from the router rather than a device connected to the router. This gives a better idea of how much bandwidth you’re getting from ISP. I had 500 Mbps connection. The tests I did showed ~470-480 Mbps. The wireless tests were very good too. I only had it configured for 2.4 and 5 GHz since I have only device that supports WiFi 6. You can customize device name and assign different icons for different devices. Nighthawk has better icons than TPLink in my opinion. Wireless security supports all expected options - WPA, WPA2/3 personal, WPA23 -Enterprise. If you’re looking for a well performing, mid-prices, easy to configure WiFi router, I would recommend the Nighthawk AX5400. However, if you want something highly customizable or that has advanced firewall features, I would not. I don’t know if newer Asus router require a subscription for some features. Netgear and TP-Link both charge subscriptions for parental controls and their “advanced” security. Though this is annoying it seems to be how it’s done now. The Asus I replaced had the parental controls builtin. I’d like to get more detailed information about which sites are being accessed and protocols and ports being used in my network. As well better segmentation. Granted these are more business than consumer features.
