I needed a wider prime lens that would give me low light capabilities to go along with my D750. I shoot landscapes and indoor concerts so I have a needed for a larger aperture than my f/4 zooms had to offer, along with a shorter focal length prime than my current 50mm & 85mm f/1.8 primes. The 20mm f/1.8 is noticeably sharper in the corners than my 24-120mm f/4G ED VR is at 24mm shot at the same apertures. I've used the 24-120mm for landscapes but sometimes I was wanting more corner sharpness and a bit wider of a lens; this 20mm f/1.8 definitely delivers! I also have the 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED that's my go to landscape lens but its smaller aperture doesn't lend itself to those low light concert shots. After comparing the 20mm f/1.8 to the 18-35mm at 20mm I was very pleased to see that the 20mm f/1.8 is slightly visibly sharper in the corners to my eye, but not by much as the 18-35mm is pretty stellar in that regard as well. I've only done back yard testing with the lens so far, but it's passed with flying colors. Attached is a handheld shot taken with the lens at f/5.6, ISO100 and 1/100. They are both the same shot with a close crop to show the amazing resolving power and detail this lens can produce. This was a RAW shot with nothing done to it other than using lightroom to export the .jpg files.

Great lens! Took this with me on a yellowstone trip last weekend! It performed excellent. Used it for landscape shots. Glad I added it to my kit! Paired this with my D610.

I read and watched tons of reviews on-line; allowing me to determine I REALLY WANTED THIS LENS. From all the reviews and professional commentary on the subject, it appears NIKON has the best 20mm 1.8 on the market. As for my experience, I love the fact the lens is razor sharp even wide-open at f/1.8...Fabulous little lens, which happens to be 77mm in diameter allowing to share filters with the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 ED & others.
