A: Both the SB-5000 and the SB-910 are compatible with the D7100, and either would be a good choice for this camera. The SB-5000 is Nikon’s newest Speedlight, and replaces the SB-910 as our flagship Speedlight. The SB-5000 Speedlight features a new internal cooling system, which prevents overheating of the flash panel from consecutive firings. As a result, the SB-5000 can fire consecutively for longer than conventional models, without flash cool-down time between bursts, and can fire up to 120 continuous shots at 5 second intervals. The SB-5000 is also smaller than the SB-910 and features more streamlined controls. The SB-5000 and the SB-910 are both part of Nikon’s Creative Lighting System and can be triggered remotely (optically) using the D7100’s built-in flash. The SB-500 also features a radio control option, but this feature is not supported by the D7100.

I can’t say enough about how good this flash is. There really isn’t anything that it can’t do and I feel like I haven’t even come close to truly using it. My only really complaint is that it’s just a little outdated. It doesn’t exactly feel outdated it just is. It’s also not quite as rugged as other Nikon accessories. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very durable. Probably more so than a lot of other flashes. It’s just not as durable. I’m honestly just being picky though. If you haven’t already bought it then do it. Don’t make the mistake of saving money.

Upgrading from a sb700 and preforms awesome on my D810. Back panel layout is user friendly. Worth the expense that I put off for sometime considering cheaper options. Hub store made walk in and walk out purchase a breeze.

I tried cheap style flash for years but knew I needed something better for doing events. For on camera flash this is the brightest I've used so far. Super bright with lots of controls and super fast refresh. It's worth the $ if you're a pro or semi pro. It's not as bright as one of those heavy ones with a curtain however, it will still surprise you.
