Olympus - 4GB Digital Voice Recorder - Gray

Bought the Olympus WS700M after considerable research. Not too many reviews on this newly released unit so I thought I would write one. I had an older Sony ICDPx mono model that my 64 bit computer did not recognize even after downloading a newer driver. It worked well on my older 32 bit computers and the speaker sound quality was good but I wanted an updated digital recorder that did more than voice recording. This tiny little Olympus gem does it all. It has a smaller profile; a USB rechargeable battery( but you can also use a single AAA battery), and a mini SD slot along with stereo recording. Since I will be using this recorder primarily for seminar lectures, I tried it out at various sensitivity settings, it picked up a soft voice clearly on the other side of the house on the lecture hall setting. It has 8 recording sensitivity settings. I also recorded a concert on MP3 128bit mode and the sound was outstanding through the included headphones and on my laptop. Transferring the data was just drag and drop. The internal speaker in the unit is small but adequate, but the recorder is tiny and is packed with a lot of desirable features. The backlit LCD display is easy to read and I love the sound level bars that allow you to monitor the recording level. I also like the pop out USB connector; you can just plug the recorder into your computer for charging or data transfer without the USB cable (which is included). As far as I am concerned, I got a lot more than I bargained for in this tiny thin shirt pocket size recorder. The extra money that this unit costs is well worth it if you want to do more than just record dictation.

i liked the multiple recording settings and how it shows you how much sound it is picking up. easy to use and become familiar with. i like the multiple folders. battery life is great, lots of memory

Perfect size recorder. Pretty easy to operate -- love that you can recharge by plugging unit into the usb port. Sound quality could be better. Thought the price was a little much.
