    Synopsis

    White House Down
A devoted father fights a ruthless paramilitary group that has seized control the White House in this high-stakes action thriller from director Roland Emmerich (2012) and writer James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man). Dejected after being turned down for a position with the Secret Service but unable to break the news to his adoring daughter, Capitol policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) is taking her on a tour of the White House when a powerful explosion rips through the building, sparking mass chaos. When the smoke clears, Cale learns that heavily armed rebels have taken both his daughter (Joey King) and the president (Jamie Foxx) hostage. As news of the attack creates mass panic and fear of total collapse, Cale realizes that the fate of his daughter, the Commander in Chief, and the entire nation rest in his willingness to fight back against the terrorists who have brought the most powerful nation on the planet to its knees. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, and James Woods co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Olympus Has Fallen
An ex-Special Forces operative and former presidential bodyguard must fight to take back the White House from terrorists who have kidnapped the Commander in Chief in this high-stakes action thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter) and starring Gerard Butler. In the aftermath of a tragic accident involving the president (Aaron Eckhart) and the first lady (Ashley Judd), Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Butler) is handed his walking papers. When a powerful terrorist group seizes command of the White House and takes the president hostage, the entire nation watches as the Speaker of the House (Morgan Freeman) becomes the acting president, and plans his response. Meanwhile, Banning finds himself trapped in the White House as it comes under siege from all sides. With no choice but to fight back against the heavily-armed invaders, Banning must rely on his extensive knowledge of the building to rescue the president, and prevent the situation from spiraling into all-out war. Melissa Leo, Angela Bassett, Robert Forster, and Radha Mitchell co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

When two movies with the same basic plot line are released relatively near each other, it's easy to see how confusion can happen. Both films contain plot lines that are barely plausible (we hope). And both films contain a good line-up of stars. Both contain plenty of action and explosions and shoot-ups to satisfy anyone looking for an action picture. Of the two, Olympus Has Fallen is my pick for the better.

I think that "White House Down" and "Olympus Has Fallen" were both the greatest action/disaster films of all-time and they were also both of my favorite action/disaster films of all-time. I also think that both "White House Down" and "Olympus Has Fallen" had a lot of entertaining and enjoyable action, mystery, and suspense including really great and amazing casts and personal/political storylines as well.

What a great deal; two very engaging and thrilling rides of a movie packed into one! Both stories deal with an attack on the White House, both produced in 2013 and both very entertaining. Whereas "White House Down" has a bit more comic relief and humour, "Olympus Has Fallen" remains more gritty and realistic. This is your chance to compare the two and pick YOUR favourite! Excellent deal!

Mindless entertainment that doesn't disappoint. Sure, some of this stuff is super cliche (I mean, two movies basically about the same thing), but if you're not looking for an arthouse film or something Oscar-worthy and prefer a good explosion here and there -- this is perfect.

Both are very good if you're into the action and good guy/bad guy type movies. Once you understand the storyline, you know what the ending will be, but it's the build-up that is entertaining.

both Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down have their champions, and that goes to show how much differentiation can exist on such a seemingly all-American premise. Both films are very loyal to those American roots, but in very different ways.

I enjoyed Olympus Has Fallen more than White House Down. Both movies are fantastic though. Feel good movies for the good guys/USA. Super high body count in both movies as well as lots of blood - probably not the movies for small children!

Both of these are great movies on their own. I recommend not watching them back to back though as you will want to digest one before taking on the other. I enjoyed them both on their own and was happy to pick them up together in one set.
