Great sound and features for a low price.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been into audio nearly all my life. Most of the gear in my main audio rig is handmade in the US (or modified). But I wanted something affordable for my computer audio. I chose the Onkyo because it uses a linear power supply and a discrete transistor power amp section. This is good design and hard to believe at this price point. Also bought because it has real speaker wire binding post, not the spring loaded ones, so I can use good quality cables. Has a pre-amp out for a sub. I like that it has real knobs for tone and balance, not requiring remote. Does not have stereo mini phone input, so requires adapter cable. Driving $2500 studio monitors.....it sounds better than it has any right to. This is a really fun little setup. I had a Sony, that I believe is basically same electronically, but broke the speaker wire connectors. I like the Onkyo's controls better. This is truly a Best Buy

GREAT receiver!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my 20+ year old receiver died, I needed a replacement that could accommodate my rebuilt Dual 522 turntable, so I fired up my web browser and did some homework. I learned that this Onkyo was one of the best options in its price range. It's handled everything I've thrown at it - LPs and CDs of several genres, likewise cassettes, even TV audio (with an additional digital adapter. As they used to say on the TV - try it, you'll like it!

Small, easy to use, no nonsense...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit is simple to set and go. I have it stuffed in a closet with a CD changer that feeds a couple of ceiling mount speakers and it is a perfect match for an old guy like me.

Works
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife needed an amplifier for her CD's and this unit worked fine. My only complaint is that they should have put an optical receptacle on this unit like they have on the European units.

Just what we were looking for!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our Pioneer amplifier finally died after 41 years of use. We went to Best Buy to replace it, and our salesperson was very helpful in finding us a great replacement. We didn't need all the bells and whistles, just a straightforward amp. We had it shipped to us in 4 days, and are very pleased with its performance.

Onkyo TX8020 is Quality and Affordable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't need blue tooth or USB connectivity so I purchased the TX8020. I'm very pleased with the sound and easy to use controls, remote and back end connections. I paired the TX8020 with a pair of Klipsch R-15M speakers for knock dead sound at both low and high volume.

works great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a basic good quality unit and that is exactly what I got. It was simple to set up and operate even for this senior. The sale price was excellent and did not break this senior on a fixed budget.

Good Receiver with Phono Input
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not all modestly priced receivers have a phono input, so if you enjoy vinyl albums, this is a good product to consider. It is quite adequate for typical residences. I've been very pleased with it.

Q: QuestionI want to connect a Sony turntable PS=LX-250 H, AC 120 V, 60 HZ 2 W, to the ONYKO TX 8020 with phono input - will this work? I also need 2 speakers (preferably bookshelf)for this receiver. Your answer and suggestion is appreciated.
Asked by babette.
- A:Answer According to a couple of articles online I just read about your turntable, the turntable has a preamp that can be turned off. If you turn off the preamp, you should be able to connect the turntable to the phono inputs of the receiver. Alternatively, you can leave the turntable preamp on and connect the turntable to the CD or tape inputs of the receiver. I don't know what to say about the speakers: you are correct, you will need two speakers to connect to the receiver. The receiver can handle speakers whose impedance is anywhere between 4 ohms and 16 ohms.
