Director Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Absentia) follows the first Ouija film with this prequel & like with his earlier films I feel he did a very good job. For those whove seen the first film youll recognize the story as the back story that was told in that film but more fleshed out. While I'm probably one of the few who enjoyed the first film this one is the better film with some good atmosphere & some decent chills. Basic plot is a widowed mother & her daughters run a psychic business to make ends meet, the mom decides to add a Ouija board for her work, they ignore the rules & you can all guess what follows. The cast for the most part did a good job here & the film itself tries not to show too much of the supernatural elements which works well here. Special features include commentary, making of, interviews & deleted scenes. If you like the first film or just like supernatural films like Insidious or The Conjuring give Ouija: Origin of Evil a chance. One last thing, make sure to stay until after the credits (or fast forward through them) as there is an extra scene that further connects the 2 Ouija films.

I give massive credit to Mike Flanagan, a young horror director on the rise, for taking what should have been a direct to DVD compulsory release of a sequel to a horror film that made just enough money to justify a second one and turning it into one of the best crafted horror films of the year. This is a man who knows his craft, with every technical element coming together as a cohesive whole to create an extremely entertaining horror experience. The film only falters slightly when it ultimately connects back to the original Ouija, a film so forgettable that I had to double check to see if I had even watched it. Ignoring that one unfortunate error in judgement, however, this film stands on its own as an expert piece of filmmaking.

It's rare that the second film from a franchise is actually better than the first and here we have that situation. Very, very well done. Great acting, writing, and directing all around. The only thing I might have changed a bit was the editing. After viewing the special features it seems that a lot of fantastic storylines were cut from the film. Some were more scenes of the same storylines in the film and others were wholly new ones....none of them, however, were superfluous. All in all a fantastic Sophmore film for this franchise. Look forward to more...

To me the steamy thriller is one genre we have been lacking a lot of in recent years, While I could see this book being an excellent read, I did find it a bit clichéd, but it was well made and Emily Blunt is such an amazing actress it made it worth it to get to the satisfying ending. Highly recommend as a fun Friday night watch and anyone who is a fan of Emily blunt.

Just watch it. It is spellbinding how real the actors make it. I'm surprised anyone came out alive, from the oil rig. It does sows what corporate greed does. It can kill. Kurt and Mark are really, really good. And I loved how human everyone was. Down to the crews fooling around not sensing danger building. So very realistic. Enjoyed it completely.

This was a fun horror flick. The acting is well done, and for the most part it is quite well written. It was enjoyable and on it's way to a fourth star, until we got to the ending. Unfortunately, at this point it became a bit uneven. Still, the effects were good, although pretty standard horror stuff, and overall genre fans should enjoy it.

This was a truly enjoyable horror film. The acting was very good, and the setting was outstanding, it seems like a lot of work went into putting them into the late 60's. If you enjoy a good horror flick, then this fits the bill. Even the opening was taken right out of that era. Fun to watch.

The second interation of Ouija was much better than the first one by far. It kept us completely enthralled. The characters were believable and the storyline kept our interest up throughout the entire film. I would put this in the same category as The Conjuring and It Follows. Excellent sequel!
