    Synopsis

    Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Co-written by Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman, Pee Wee's Big Adventure marks the debut of director Tim Burton, who stamps the entire film with his quirky trademark style. The premise: Pee Wee (Reubens), an overgrown pre-pubescent boy sporting a molded Princeton cut, blush, lipstick, and a shrunken gray flannel suit, lives an idyllic life in his bizarre home (some have compared the remarkable set design to the expressionistic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) until someone nabs his most prized possession: a fire engine-red customized bicycle. He then embarks on an epic cross-country search to find his lost love, not to mention more than a little adventure. Along the way, he makes friends with various oddball characters, visits the Alamo, endures various hallucinatory nightmares, and has a supernatural run-in with a spectral trucker. In this reprisal of his popular standup routine, Reubens is wonderful as the nerdy man child; he plays it silly, yet he manages to imbue the role with some sensitivity without ever seeming maudlin. The score by Danny Elfman is terrific -- as is the case in nearly every film Burton has directed -- and the script is fresh and inventive. Some of the most memorable moments: the opening sequence involving Pee Wee's morning activities is a stroke of genius (note the bunny slippers and talking breakfast), as are the scenes at the truck stop, and the "Hollywood" version of Pee Wee's story at the end (starring James Brolin and Morgan Fairchild in surprise cameos). In all, Pee Wee's Big Adventure is a delightful film, enjoyable for children as well as adults. ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

Great storyline, clean simple humor...I loved this movie when I was young and its hilarious to watch my kids laugh too! Peewee Herman's character was not originally intended for children however this movie was created for all audiences. I love his sarcasm and innocence. His childlike persona is so lovable but there is an air of adulthood with the unwanted attraction by the bike shop clerk. No foul language except when he talks about "big buts" referring to the excuses and barriers one has in achieving your dreams. Peewee Herman's clever inventions are so intriguing and inspiring to all kids. I love the throwback to the 80s and showing kids what life was like way back when!

like most people my age (36), we grew up with paul rubens. this is the movie that started it all (not counting the HBO special in 1981) the story of a boy who has an amazing bike, gets it stolen and goes on a cross country adventure to get it back. while i am thrilled to have it on blu ray, the transfer is not very good. its more like DVD quality and has a lot of grain which is why im giving it 4 instead of 5 stars. still a must own if you dont already, just dont expect a clear difference from the DVD.

This movie is my youth. I love Tim Burton film and this is what started it all. It's funny, its wacky, and the music is awesome. That being said THE MUSIC! Danny Elfman scores all of Tim Burtons film and was the driving force for Oingo Boingo back in "the day" one of the features on this Blu Ray is you can watch the movie with all of the dialogue taken out and nothing but the music with commentary from Elfman himself. I know thats not for everyone but how huge is that for a fan? I would have liked a Digi book or steebook release of this.

Fun supplemental materials with a commentary from director Tim Burton and co-writer / star Paul Reubens and another with composer Danny Elfman (Elfman's commentary includes an isolated score track as an extra added bonus!). There's also some deleted scenes and a featurette with the production designer. While the audio and video are not what one would consider demo-worthy, it is still an upgrade from the previous DVD release. This movie is one of my childhood favorites and I am thrilled that it is available on blu-ray.

We absolutley love the Peewee. I was a huge color gaurd geek/nerd in high-school so most of the guys I dated or hung out with were like Peewee. My husband is the dashing, handsome, leading-man type and he's also a brilliant man. But it's nice to watch the Peewee and remember back to my days on the Island of Misfit Toys as it were. Livvy the punim loves the Peewee too.

This movie, even if you don't like Paul Ruebens, is a classic, period. PW (as his girlfriend calls him) loses his bike and goes on an adventure to recover it. Since the movie was directed by Tim Burton, that adventure is anything but ordinary! It looks good on Blu-ray and who doesn't enjoy PW dancing in his big shoes?!?

This movie may be the greatest comedy ever. Rarely does 30 seconds go by without a legitimate laugh. The humor is very smart and in many cases it is subtle. That is a quality that is completely missing in modern comedy. The movie and content has aged very, very well over the past 28 years.
