A Peter Pan (Musical) TV re-make

This DVD is a TV re-do of the "Peter Pan" Broadway musical. I had read that it was made by the same TV people who did last year's TV "Sound Of Music" musical with Carrie Underwood. I watch that show to see if it was "better" than the film with Julie Andrews. I had missed this new TV broadcast of "Peter Pan" so I bought the DVD to see it. For the "The Sound Of Music" there was never a TV Broadway version before. For this version of "Peter Pan" however it really has been done before on TV with Mary Martin. Just as Carrie Underwood's Maria did not compare well with Julie Andrews' version, I found that Allison Williams' Peter Pan was not as engaging as Mary Martin's version. Also I was not impress with Christopher Walken as Captain Hook either. I think Christopher Walken is a great actor, but singing on a Broadway stage is not his forte. Overall, It felt like I was watching a high school production of Peter Pan. In the future I think I'll skip watching anymore of these "Live" TV productions of Classic Broadway Musicals.

This was a massive NBC live broadcast in December 2014 as a one-off - not released to theaters, not, as far as I know, re-run yet. The producers had in mind to re-create the ambience of the 1950s, when all television was live and anything might happen. They took twelve-plus weeks after the open casting call putting it together - the bonus feature on the construction of the performance was fascinating. Most of the music comes from earlier incarnations of Peter Pan on stage, although there are a couple of new songs. Yes, Peter and the kids fly, another tricky aspect of a live performance - when Wendy bumps into a piece of scenery, there are no do-overs. The performances were obviously fun - Christopher Walken as Hook was clearly enjoying himself. My only complaint is the lack of subtitles. My ears are not what yours might be, and I use subtitles regularly. I had to watch this again in a different room where I could jack up the volume to hear the lyrics of the new songs.

To combine fantastic set decoration, special effects, music & dance, flying and present everything LIVE....That is absolutely astounding. Although it was important to view it live, the DVD simply repeats the experience. Christopher Walken's performance was the only negative in that he appeared to be disconnected.

I'm a huge fan of the Peter Pan musical and was intrigued by the idea of Christopher Walken as Captain Hook. While this version is not terrible it seems to fall flat in many regards, particularly in the acting department. I'd say if you're interested it could be a good one to rent to see if you'll like it.

Well, I am going to preface this with the fact that I saw the original Mary Martin version many years ago. This is a good attempt but it is hard to compete with the original. It gives a valiant effort and for that alone it worth the time to watch and enjoy this remake of the classic tale. Enjoy it I did,!!!

"Peter Pan Live" is an NBC televised event of this beloved children's tale. Christopher Walken does an excellent job as "Captain Hook" and Minnie Driver has a wonderful magical role in this epic event. If you're a fan of a new twist on an older story, you'll enjoy this.

Peter Pan Live is a good stage play broadcast over tv. The DVD is a good buy to add to your collection. The DVD also has the 1 hour making of that aired the week before the show did. The soundtrack on the main menu makes it sound like you are at a real play.

We enjoyed seeing Robin Williams doing one of his best gruff but lovable characters. The story line, though somewhat predictable was brought off with the Robin Williams humor. We will watch this one over and over.
