Like the title says, to me, this is pretty much the Best Bluetooth headset in the Market, however with that said I do have some small complaints with this device and as well as some good stuff to say about it so keep in mind that this is my second replacement from BestBuy as the first one either had a defect or perhaps I might have damaged it. Pros. 1.Excellent microphones built in: it let's callers hear me very clearly, specially if your phone has HD voice built in, you will get the best clarity when callers hear you. On other brands I had, people would complaint about hearing my voice very muffled but not with the 5220, everyone who I talk to says they can hear me very clearly. 2. Battery life: so far it has given me about 6 hours 55 minutes out of the advertised 7 hours and 15 minutes of talk time and since i do have it on standby, when im not on a call with someone the Bluetooth has last me more then my 10 hour work shift. I can drive home which is another hour or longer depending on traffic and I still have about 2 hours left! 3. The design: it looks very sleek and professional. I have gotten compliments on the streets which is weird to me as that has never happened before. 4. The gel ear tips feel very comfortable but can be a little tricky to remove to swap out to your proper size, you have to put a little pressure to change the ear tips so be carefull. 5. The button for commands: it is awesome, I am using the 5220 with my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and works great when I want to call someone, I can say call so and so person and it will do it. I can also use Google assistant with it which is pretty awesome, I LOVE that feature. 6. Bluetooth connection Range: it claims to give 98 feet from your phone, however on my test I got 65 feet before it disconnected from the 5220 which is by far one of the Best i have ever tested! Most of the ones I've owned in the past barely give me 20 feet range with lots of static. Now for the cons: 1. The manual: unfortunetely there is no explanation as to how the device charges, specially if this is your first Plantronics Bluetooth this is important. To put it as short as i can, the little LED light turns red when the 5220 is low on battery power, flashes red/blue when its pairing to your phone for the first time, Flashes blue 3 times every 5 seconds or so to indicate that the Bluetooth is almost fully charged, then turns off when its fully charged. Recommended charger is a 5 volts 1 AH, DO NOT use a 5 volt 2 AH as it will Damage the battery. I think that's why my first one stopped powering on after a few days of buying it. 2. The charger, Sigh..... The 5220 came with a car charger instead of a home charger, it's sort of good as i read that the older 5200 version didn't even have a charger. However, Most people charge their Bluetooth headsets with a charging brick that usually comes with your Bluetooth earpeace, I don't know anyone who would use a car charger to charge their bluetooth inside a home so a home charger would have been a better idea. Most would be using the Bluetooth for hands free talking in a car not charging it in one. They also don't sell a charging brick made for it. So once again make sure you buy a random 5 Volt 1 amp hour USB charger to properly charge your 5220 in case you don't have time to charge it off your PC. 3.the volume, if you Max out the volume on the 5220 you will Damage the speaker inside the Bluetooth and it will sound like a torn plastic bag when people call you. I made that mistake with the first one so i recommend only having it at 80% volume to avoid this problem. That seems to be working for me so far. Bottom line: it's still a great Bluetooth headset and I hope the next version comes with a HOME CHARGER. The price is a little steep for what you get out of the box specially since you are not getting a proper charger for it and there is also no case provided to store it, not even a case you can buy as an extra add on like the last version but it's still worth it based on its performance and extremely well sound quality of making and receiving calls. So I would still recommend it to anyone over any other brand out there, specially if you are able to drop the cash for one of these.

I got this Bluetooth after returning the Blue Parrott. While I loved the Blue Parrott the headset itself was painful to wear so I decided to give the traditional type Bluetooth another try. The Plantronics Voyager 5220 is a great Bluetooth. It can be worn on either ear. The sound is pretty clear with no static. It is crazy but sometimes it will read out the full name in my contact list when they call but most times it just says answer or ignore. Sometimes I have to shout at it cause it does not always pick up on your voice the first time. Also the Google voice sucks as it does not work most of the time, so it isn't truly hands free.I probably need to download the Plantronics app to make these issues go away. There is occasional static & the earpiece does hurt after long periods of wear. The battery life to me isn't that great. (Remember I returned a Blue Parrott that could go for 24 hrs without a recharge so I am spoiled!) But this is a adequate for daily use. It does come with a car charger so it can be charged on the go. A USB is included but no plug. I guess they figured you have enough of them laying around. That may be an issue with it keeping a decent charge as it seems to deplete itself of energy pretty quick. The range isn't as advertised. I think when they say range they mean unobstructed, like nothing between the Bluetooth & phone. If I go out on my porch or from the bedroom to the kitchen the call become very static to the point I sometimes cannot hear my caller so you may need to carry your phone with you while walking around. I like to pace when I am on the phone. It is as stated sweat proof. Once I download the app ( I so hate having to add yet another app to make a device work properly!) I will come back to give an update.

Great Bluetooth But Has Charging Issue

      Posted
      TopTen

I am a fan of the Plantronics Bluetooth and have used both the Legend and now the Voyager 5220 which is only sold through Best-Buy. Like the other Bluetooth devices, the Voyager 5220 performs very well with adequate volume, comfort, background noise reduction, connection, and even rapid charge works well with only 30 minutes of charge time to have a full 6 hours of talk time (the Legend provides 7 hours talk time compared to the Voyager 5220 providing 6 hours talk time). The issue I have had with ALL of them, and my co-workers and friends have had the same issue, is that the older the Bluetooth devices get, the more difficult they become to charge once the battery is low. I highly recommend getting the 2 Year Extended Replacement warranty through GeekSquad when purchasing the Bluetooth at Best-Buy for I never had one last a full 2 years before I could no longer charge the device. Once the battery gets low and the auto-attendant says "Battery Low.. Recharge Headset" it is important to recharge the device before hearing the auto-attendant repeats the request to "recharge headset". I have found that once the devices get older along with heavy usage, charging the device can become a problem if I let the power fully deplete and the device turns off. I have to switch cables and power sources while turning the device off and on until I finally do the "magic trick" that gets the device to begin charging and eventually it won't accept a charge at all. My last Voyager 5220 lasted 7 months before it stopped taking a charge and I just replaced it using the GeekSquad 2 Year Extended Replacement warranty. I find the voice quality superior to all other Bluetooth devices and put up with this flaw in hopes that Plantronics finally addresses and resolves this re-charging issue.

It's not all bad. The sound quality is good, people hear me well, nearly every time, even in moderately windy conditions (I am sure the phone/connection is the issue during the few exceptions). It is comfortable to wear and the battery life is quite good. What is not great about it: To be fair this is not my first one, it is my second one. And I used each of them with different phones (one rooted, one not). While using this device both phones were updated, which made no difference (different updates/different versions of the OS, both Android). The result is I am quite confident that the issues I have experienced are not phone related. The issues which plagued both ear pieces are as follows: Sometimes I switch it on and nothing happens until I press the red button. Sometimes I switch it on and nothing happens. I then have to try multiple times until some combination of switching it on/off and pressing the red button causes it to respond. Sometimes it comes on but out right refuses to connect to the phone. "No phone connected" again and again. Sometimes I will make a call and I hear the ringing but, when the other person answers, it disconnects from the phone. I must dig out the phone, unlock it and switch off/on bluetooth (in the in-call interface) to connect the earpiece back to the phone without loosing the call. If I push the answer/end button on the earpiece while this is happening it will end the call. This tells me it was still connected just not conducting sound. Sometimes when I hold the red button to invoke Google (S-Voice on old phone), I will hear a tone in the earpiece but nothing else happens - the phone does not wake up, Google/S-Voice does not start. Turning off and on the earpiece is the usual fix, messing with the phone is not required. These issues occurred with the first one both before and after the firmware update (which I was REALLY hoping was going to fix the problem(s)) for the earpiece. The second one already had the latest firmware on it when purchased. The Volume buttons have never given me any trouble and red button has never failed to mute/unmute, if that's any consolation.

Thank you for your honest review on our Voyager 5220, we are sorry to hear you have been experiencing trouble with your unit.

The issues you describe can happen when the headset's wearing sensors do not properly detect that the unit is on your ear, in order to troubleshoot this we recommend that you power the headset off and reset these sensors by pressing and holding the call and mute buttons at the same time until the headset's LED flashes blue once. If the issue persists after resetting these sensors you can disable them through our Hub app for Android and iOS. We hope you find this helpful, please don't hesitate to contact our customer care group anytime at www.plantronics.com/support if you require assistance. Plantronics

I bought this headset mainly for office conference calls and making phone calls while driving in the car. So the three most important things for me (in this order) are: 1. My voice quality to the listener 2. Noise cancelling (while driving and at the airports) and 3. Listener's voice quality (loudness and clarity). I was really looking forward to this headphone working well on these dimensions given the rave reviews, price tag, Plantronics' previous products and the website description/claims. I have to say that I'm quite disappointed and had to return the headsets because of the following: 1. Static noise: I have iPhone 6s and I keep getting static at my end (the listener does not hear that). This is mainly while using "HD Voice" which is basically unusable to minimize static (had to switch it off permanently). No resetting/repairing or reinstalling the Plantronics app helped. No new firmware is available currently to fix this issue 2. Loudness: The loudness of the call (at my end when others are speaking) is poor even at max volume. Especially if you are in a car etc., it sometimes is hard to hear the other person. This is a big deal as you obviously don't want to miss pieces during a crucial conference call etc. 3. Fit: I wish Plantronics will make in-ear earpieces for headphones like these. The current earpieces simply get placed on to the ear canal versus fit in. This effects the sound quality, comfort ... and the fit is wobbly versus secure On the plus side, the noise cancelling is good as the folks on the other side noticed considerable improvement in my voice/ ambient noise as I changed from my car Bluetooth to these while driving. Thanks to Best Buy for no hassle return at the store. I really wanted to have these work out but the collection of the above issues proved to be a deal breaker

Amazing noise cancelling and voice clarity.

This is an amazing Bluetooth headset. The battery lasts for days with a few calls each day. This one is a little more comfortable than the Voyager legend which I also own. Being able to charge it via any standard microUSB without the adapter is a huge plus. I actually prefer charging it this way versus the magnetic adapter because the USB stays plugged in and doesn't come off when I hit a bump in the road. The noise cancelling on this thing is unbelievable. I've been on phone calls when a semi truck accelerated past with a full heavy load, I could barely hear myself speak over the noise but the person on the other end could hear me loud and clear and barely heard the truck in the background. Cons: There are some sensors that detect when it's in your ear, and the set doesn't quite fit into my ear well enough for these sensors to consistently register the fact that it's in there. The default settings will cause the headset to automatically hang up the call when you remove it. If you have this problem you will need to download the PTLhub application on your device to change this setting. Once you've saved it, it seems to carry across those settings to different devices. The volume could be a little louder. I can't really use it to listen to my audio books because on most titles the narrator's voice tends to get a little quiet sometimes. I also don't recommend this for listening to music, although you can certainly do that. The headset is optimized for vocal clarity, not for the highs and lows you get in music. As a commercial truck driver I highly recommend this to other drivers as a must-have device. This would be great for anyone who has to take frequent calls where there is a lot of background noise. It would probably make a good computer headset for voice communication programs such as Skype and Discord if you've got Bluetooth if your computer.

When it comes time to replace a bluetooth headset I spend some time researching what I'll buy next and when I washed my 3rd Plantronics voyager legend it was time to get a new headset. Now mind you my last 4 headsets have all been the Plantronics voyager legend as they've been the top of the game for multiple years. the audio is crystal clear, the mic was a great pickup, I could drive in a convertible with the top down and the boss would think I was sitting in my office, no joke. So if something was going to beat the legend it had to be pretty awesome. The 5200 has 4 mics (vs the legend's 3) for better audio catching and filtering, the speaker is clear and crisp, and I like the button design over the toggle for volume personally. The biggest change I'm excited about is if you hold down the button on the boom for about a second and a half you can have the headset connect to the google now agent on your phone (I didn't test S-voice or siri). This is the feature which made the most sense to me, though I wasn't going to sacrifice the operation of the other features just to get this. My only complaint is, there's yet another proprietary new connection for charging the headset BUT for some reason plantronics also included a microUSB you can charge the headset from which is a very nice addition. My wish list would be a more water resistant/water proof version of this, I'd gladly pay more for it, but maybe I should learn to check my pockets before doing the laundry. Overall I loved my Plantronics Voyager legend and didn't think I'd ever find anything better but the 5200 is my new favorite and I'd imagine it will be for many years to come.

I use my headset daily and need one with good sound quality and long battery life. The 5200 has excellent sound quality and battery life similar to the legend. One improvement in the 5200 is the option to use either the proprietary charger or a micro-USB charger. The previous legend would only support the proprietary charger. I did notice that the proprietary charger from my old Legend does not fit the new 5200. This doesn't really matter to me as I prefer charging my headset with the micro-USB. The headset is a little bit wider than the previous headset. When I wear the 5200 for 8+ hours, I can notice that I feel a little bit sore when I take it off. I wear glasses and this may contribute, or be the reason, that I have soreness after long wear times. The earpiece might be more comfortable for someone who does not wear glasses. I do think the earpiece seems to fit better on this model and is easier for me to hear conversations. I have looked for other models that would offer great call quality with better sound, but so far have not been able to find one with the features I desire most.
