Built to bring the big surround sound theater and music experience into the comfort of your living room, the Polk Signature S15 compact bookshelf speaker continues in the Polk tradition of American HiFi. Featuring Hi-Res certification, a new Dynamic Balance designed acoustic array, precision cross-overs, an anti-diffraction grille, modern cabinet styling and exclusive PowerPort technology, it delivers rich, clean, full-range sound in a totally re-imagined design. Supports latest hi-resolution audio files, plus Dolby & DTS surround technologies that ensure realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments. With patented PowerPort technology S15 delivers 3dB more bass response than a traditional ported speaker for your TV shows movies & music, while minimizing distortion. S15 speakers are timbre-matched to other Polk Audio floorstanding speakers, center channels & bookshelf speakers for seamless speaker-to-speaker blending effects in multi-channel systems. They can be used as front and/or surround speakers in a home theater setup, or work perfectly in a simple stereo system.
Q: What is a 2-way speaker? What is a passive speaker?
A: One speaker for high frequencies and one speaker for mid and low frequencies. A passive speaker is not self-powered. You must connect them to an amplifier with speaker wires to power them.
A: There is a single hole in the back at the top of the speaker. It's a fairly heavy speaker though. Use a good screw and one of those expansion things (sorry, don't know what that thing is called) that you stick in the wall then drive your screw into that. Hope this helps James N. Merry Christmas
A: I'm using these as rear surround speakers. Im sure you can use them as front speakers too. These are a little big. Maybe the Polk S10 for rear surround and The S15's for front or maybe tge S20's for fronts.
Q: Can I connect bare speaker wire into the back of these? I have an old receiver.
A: Yes and it did do the job for me. Very simple button mechanism to hold the wire. Don't waste money or time buying jacks or anything. Wire, speaker and receiver all you need!
A: Either one would work great for rear surround speakers. Personally, I would opt for the S15s.
Q: Are these speakers dipole (for surround sound system)? Are the stands available as well?
A: No and no.
A: Yes. This price is per pair. The title is definitely misleading. It even confused multiple store personnel. To top it off, the box itself only has a picture of a single speaker. Before I purchased these tonight after some debate we eventually opened the box which revealed it has two speakers in it.
A: You may have your bass set too high. Try lowering your bass and raising your treble settingz.
