i was looking for a speaker brand to use in a 5.1 setup(70% music,30% movies),my budget for the system was 2,000. I wanted a speaker that produced clear, accurate mid's and highs, and a tight, but well rounded bottom end. I listen to a little bit of everything, and also like to throw a few parties,so i wanted a speaker that was very versatile. After doing a lot of research online, looking at specs, reading reviews like this one for the surrounds
(hometheaterreview.com/polk-tsx220b-bookshelf-speakers-reviewed/),and then going to Best Buy to do some listening tests,i decided on the Polk TSX 550's(760.00 for the pair on sale) as the choice for my main speakers. Even stacked up against more expensive DefTech's,Martin Logans, Bowers & Wilkins, and even the Polk Audio RTi A7's, the TSX 550's were more than up to the challenge, they just did everything well. Aesthetically they are an impressive looking, well built speaker, with 5 drivers, including 2- 8" woofers, each measuring almost 4 ft,and weighing 59 pds! I bought them home thinking i would return them after a few weeks if they didn't sound as good in my home. Well 2 months later and here i am writing this review. They are even better sounding now after being broken in and i couldn't be happier. I have paired them with the TSX 150c center channel(150.00 on sale),PSW110 sub(125.00 on sale),the above mentioned TSX 220 B's(283.00 the pair),and a Yamaha TSR 7650(480.00),all for under 2,000. If you want a speaker that sounds good for both music and movies,is efficient at low levels but can fill a room if needed, that has a warm, accurate sound, not too bright, and not too boomy, then look no further than the Polk Audio TSX 550's. Don't take my word for it however,go ahead and listen for yourself.
