We know you entrust us with your confidential and personal information when you use Best Buy to provide service and support on your device. And while you should always remove your data from any device you choose to dispose of, we also work to protect your confidential and personal information through appropriate handling, safe storage, and high standards for wiping your data. We know that, as our customer, you expect us to safeguard your data at all times and in all of these situations.
Our employees, including Blue Shirts and Geek Squad Agents who provide support in our stores and in home, as well as the third parties who provide services to you on our behalf, are required to treat your information with care. We have administrative, technical, and physical safeguards in place to protect the data that reflect this obligation.
Our service processes are designed so that if the service requested doesn’t require access to the data stored on a device, the Agent does not access that data. For example, our Geek Squad Agents are trained to never access data on a customer’s device provided to Geek Squad for service except in limited circumstances, and only to the extent necessary to perform the service, such when you ask us to recover your data. Devices that could have your information on them and are traded in or provided to Best Buy for recycling are protected until they are sent to the appropriate location for data wipe or other required disposition.
In addition to our efforts to protect your data, there are a couple of ways you can safeguard your data too. For example, it’s a good idea to back up your data and important files, if possible, prior to bringing your device in for service. Safeguarding your information by backing up or removing sensitive data from your device will give you peace of mind that your information is safe and secure.
We know you trust us with your most important information and we are committed to honoring that trust.
