Your access to the Service requires that you have a BestBuy.com account; you may need to be logged in to that account (“authenticated”) to fully use the Service.
What We Collect
Usage Information and Logs: We track certain user interactions with the Service. We record the IP address from which you access the Service, and certain configuration changes you make to the Service through the mobile application. We store this configuration and usage information along with your account profile information, information about your smart devices, data collected directly by the smart devices, and any other information we have collected about your use of the Service.
Device Information: We receive information from devices connected to our Service, such as smart devices and your mobile device, this information may include unique device identifiers such as MAC address (a numeric identifier for your mobile and other connected devices), IP address, device information from sensors, and Wi-Fi information for Insignia Connect smart devices from your home network.
Location Information: We may receive location information from devices connected to our Service by implication from other information collected (for example, an IP address may indicate the general geographic region of your Internet connection).
We store your personal information on our servers for as long as you remain a customer. You may update and correct your personal information or deactivate your account at any time. You may request removal of content or personal information on our Service; in some cases, we may not be able to remove your content or personal information, in which case we will let you know if we are unable to do so and why.
Use of Insignia Connect Information
- To provide, develop and improve our products and services, including to make assessments and recommendations about products, safety, or energy use

Sharing of Insignia Connect Information
We also have strict policies and technical barriers in place to prevent unauthorized access to personal information, including video and audio data.
We may share non-personal, aggregated or anonymized information with our partners. We take steps to keep this non-personal information from being associated with you and we require our partners to do the same.
We use physical, administrative, and technological methods to protect your data, including while it is being transmitted and stored.
Information collected and processed by Insignia Wi-Fi Smart Plug and Insignia Wi-Fi Smart Plug with Power Meter:
Information collected during installation: When you install the Smart Plug, you will be asked for information like your Smart Plug name, date and time, and where in your home you are installing the Smart Plug. Information is also collected to establish schedules to turn on and off the Smart Plug. For the Power Meter model, regional location information is derived from your home IP address to arrive at a zip code and related time zone to collect and establish local utility rates for energy consumption reporting.
Information collected from the device: For troubleshooting purposes, we record your Smart Plug’s model and serial number, software version, and other information such as Wi-Fi signal strength.
Information collected about the environment: For the Power Meter model, we collect data from sensors built into the Smart Plug. These sensors collect data such as energy consumption.
Information collected and processed by Insignia Freezers with Wi-Fi Connectivity:
Information collected during installation: When you install the Insignia Freezer with Wi-Fi connectivity, you will be asked for information like your Freezer’s name, date and time, and where in your home you are installing the Freezer.
Information collected from the device: For troubleshooting purposes, we record your Freezer’s model and serial number, software version, and other information such as Wi-Fi signal strength.
Information collected about the environment: We collect data from sensors built into the Freezer. These sensors collect data such as temperature, door open status, and power connection status.
Information collected and processed by Insignia Wi-Fi Smart In-Wall Switch:
Information collected during installation: When you install the In-Wall Switch, you will be asked for information like the In-Wall Switch name, date and time, and where in your home you are installing the In-Wall Switch. Information is also collected to establish schedules to turn on and off the In-Wall Switch.
Information collected from the device: For troubleshooting purposes, we record the In-Wall Switch’s model and serial number, software version, and other information such as Wi-Fi signal strength.
Information collected and processed by Insignia Wi-Fi Camera:
Information collected during installation: When you install the camera, you will be asked for information like your camera name, date and time, and where in your home you are installing the camera. If you have multiple cameras installed, this information helps to notify you which camera has detected motion and captured a video clip.
Information collected from the device: For troubleshooting purposes, we record your camera’s model and serial number, software version, and other information such as Wi-Fi signal strength.
Information collected about the environment: We collect data from sensors built into the camera. These sensors collect data such as ambient light in the room. By recording this information, the camera can know if night vision should be enabled.
Collection of video and audio: The camera supports video and audio recording and streaming features. This may include capturing clips of data following motion events as part of a notification to the Insignia Connect app on your mobile device. In addition, based on your service plan, we will capture, process, and retain video and audio data recordings from your camera, and you will be able to access those recordings using the Service.
Storage of video and audio clips: By default, the camera stores video and audio clips on a storage system on the internet (that is part of the Service) that you access through the Insignia Connect app. Clips stored on this system are encrypted with keys specific to each user. For redundancy purposes, the camera can be equipped with an SD memory card (SD card is not provided with the camera) to store video and audio clips when the storage system is not available. If the camera is unable to connect to the storage system through your home Wi-Fi, and a formatted SD card has been inserted into the camera, then the camera will automatically save video and audio clips directly to the SD card in the camera. These clips will be encrypted with keys specific to the camera. Once connectivity to the storage system has been re-established, the Service will automatically upload the stored clips from the SD card to the storage system and encrypt these clips with the user’s keys.
Saving and sharing video and audio clips: You may choose to download certain video and audio clips from the storage system to the standard video library on your mobile device that is running the Insignia Connect application. The clips, once transferred to your mobile device, will not be encrypted and you will be free to share those clips outside of the Service.
Legal notice regarding video and audio clips: Data protection and privacy laws may impose certain responsibilities on you and your use of the camera. You are responsible for ensuring that you comply with any applicable laws when you use the camera. Recording clips that involve other people may affect their privacy and data protection rights. The default configuration for the camera has audio recording turned off.
