Sony - HT-S400 2.1ch Soundbar with powerful wireless Subwoofer - Black

I have a 70" LG TV that is mounted over my fireplace. The distance between the base of the TV and the fireplace mantle was minimal, and I wasn't sure I could mount a soundbar without actually moving the TV bracket upward. So that was the very first HUGE benefit of this soundbar. It is extremely compact in both height and depth (at about 2/5" tall and 3.5" deep). The fit was great, but I could only buy it if I could switch it on while it was covering my IR Receiver on my TV. Here is where the second benefit comes in, and I'm not certain it is well understood. This unit comes with an "IR Repeater", which means once you activate it in the settings (after reading the manual), it will actually transmit the IR signal from your remote control through to your TV... even when it is covered by the soundbar! Check out the image I attached and you'll see just how tight the distance was which was solved by the IR Repeater. Now onto the quality of this unit. The soundbar itself is well-constructed and solid. It is quite versatile, compatible with Bluetooth, Optical, HDMI ARC, and more. I chose the HDMI ARC connection, which I find superior to Bluetooth as it does a great job on lip-synch, and allows full control using your TV remote. I was so pleased to find my LG TV was completely controllable using Sony soundbar functions! Finally, about the sound quality. You become immersed in theater-like sound. The bass is crisp and clear, and there is even a setting to allow voice dialogue to be brought more to the foreground. The upgrade from my built-in speakers on my TV was incredible. I highly recommend this soundbar. I purchased it while it was on sale at a $100.00 discount... and it was a steal!

This sound bar and subwoofer has GREAT quality. We use this in our game room with projector for movie theatre quality sound and it’s been fantastic for us. My daughter is noise sensitive so we haven’t even used this at max sound and it’s plenty loud at even just half max volume. Sound is crisp and clear especially for marvel movies (what we spend the most time on). The wireless subwoofer let us place it in another area of the room which gives more surround sound quality to the set. The bar is about the same size as our 32” tv and was easy to mount. Very easy to connect to our Bluetooth projector for quality sound every time. Highly recommend!

I’ve never understood the need to spend as much money on a soundbar and subwoofer setup as I did for my TV alone, and this little bar and woofer combo from Sony solidifies that standing opinion. With the Sound Field feature turned on, the sound and volume range of this bar absolutely decimates the TV’s speaker capabilities. The subwoofer produces clean, rich bass, especially when you’re watching a movie that can take advantage of all the bass frequencies. Here’s the crazy bonus I discovered: if you pair this setup with a Sony TV, then your factory Sony TV remote will operate the sound bar! When you install the sound system, the Sony TV auto detects the setup and overrides its own speakers. This means automatic control of your soundbar with the TV’s remote, and your TV’s speakers are deactivated, so you don’t experience any of that weird echo phenomenon! Also, when you turn power on your Sony TV, it automatically powers up the sound system. When you power off your Sony TV, it puts the soundbar into standby mode! As you can see in my pics, the little soundbar remote just stays up there on the mantle as a backup. Once you turn on Sound Field, that setting is saved. Just put your little soundbar remote someplace safe as a backup, because you won’t need it if using a Sony TV! This is a fantastic, value-minded setup.
