“Lots of people are saying they only get "local channels" when hooking this tv up via coaxial cable. Our current tv is hooked up this way and gets Local (NBC, Fox, etc) PLUS basic cable (NICK, HGTV, TLC etc). Will I lose these if I get this tv?”

Nothing should change with the channel lineup. I suspect those people were talking about using antennae.

So I'm guessing a coaxial cable can be used to hook a tv straight to an antenna then if you don't get cable service? I really don't understand such things as I'm not the homeowner nor a handyperson or anything. I did some research and learned that tv's have built in 'tuners' and there are different types of tuners so maybe some people didn't get a tv with the right one for their setup? Again out of my expertise. I'm do appreciate the help here but I am glad I asked the cable company. Easy to do online, got a quick answer. Let's just hope I got an ACCURATE answer since I went ahead than and bought a smart tv (mother wanted one). Can always return if things don't work out. :) Mike: We have Spectrum also. One of our tv's is a 1990 Sony and gets basic cable fine through the coaxial (up to channel 72). I'm not sure why your older one doesn't then? The Sony Manual says it has a 'multi-band' tuner so maybe that's why it works? If you're curious about it I'd ask Spectrum. It is great you can use the Spectrum App though then. I use it sometimes but overall I prefer to watch cable via the cable line where I can punch in the channel number on the TV remote.

We bought this tv because it is a smart tv that we can load with the spectrum app. With this we get everything that our spectrum programming offers. All of our older model tv’s have no signal with our cable.
