“Can the stand/legs be moved closer together? The shelf I need to mount this on is about 2 feet long and will hold a tv with a central mount. In the picture it looks like there's holes for the legs to be mounted closer together, is this the case?”

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.As far as I know this TV only has feet mounting brackets near the ends of the TV. Newer or older models may have a different layout but the version I own (2015) doesn't have it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No they can't. And I feel like they'll snap if I blow on the TV. The legs and TV attach at a very week joint. And it sways with any movement. I really fear it might snap with an earthquake or any light touch. Wall mounting is probably the best for this TV but I don't want to do that.
