No, there isn't a way to upgrade or install a different hard drive on this product.

In short, yes. I would recommend an external option, maybe flash memory. Just Google external hd Chromebook. But honestly, there's no need to load 1TB onto a Chromebook. Imagine loading 1TB onto an iPad, why? You can do anything, with the right knowledge. Chrome OS is Linux based btw.
