All powerline Ethernet adapter systems require 2 adapters; 1 connected to your router and another adapter where you want the wired extension. My question is: can you use multiple extension points by using a 3rd adapter (or more) in another location of the same house? If so, I assume all extension point adapters would be subject to the limitations of the adapter connected to the router. Would there be any other drawbacks? Would the security feature still work properly? If I live in a single family home do I even need the security feature?”

That is not one question :-[ You should be able to add a 2nd receiver of the same brand (and sometimes other brands). You should be able to use the security feature across multiple devices (sender - receiver 1) then (sender to receiver 2). You should not need the security feature at home. You never get more speed out of the system than it is capable of at the sending point. If you have 300 Mbps and 5 devices are actively using it ... they will be sharing that speed ... like cars on a road.

You're supposed to used the powerline adapters together on the same power circuit however, I'm using one downstairs and 3 upstairs all on different circuits and haven't had any issues. Your question about limitations is correct though. As for the security question, to my knowledge, all of my security features, which are set through my modem as well as my internet security program still function just fine. I would always have security though. You can never be too safe as to what websites will try to do with your PC and what your neighbors might try to do to use your network.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought 2 packages that contained two adapters, both adapters are exactly the same (it came in the "kit"). I plugged one into the router and wall, then I used the other three adapters in three other rooms. So you don't need a pair for every connection. The only thing you need to be aware of, is the adapter that is plugged into the router, whatever electrical circuit that is on, the other adapters will work on that same circuit. If you have three rooms on the same circuit, then just plug the adapter into that circuit.
