No, you don't need Alexa to use the Fire TV Stick. It works perfectly fine using the standard buttons on the remote.

I believe they make FireSticks without Alexa or with. We own the one with Alexa but you don't have to use Alexa to work the FireStick. In fact after finding out that Alexa uses up some of our Internet Data, we rarely use it at all. Alexa is just a bonus added to the FireStick to help you navigate and find things.
