“Is the Apple Pen compatible with the iPad Air 2 9.7 inch maybe 2014. If not what is the best stylus to use with this that will be steady and work amazing.”

It is not compatible with the model iPad Air. Unfortunately, beyond the Pencil there aren’t many to use that will write properly. If it’s an option for you, maybe consider trading your 2014 iPad Air in towards a new iPad 10.2 inch/ 7th generation. The 7th generation is compatible with the 1st Gen Apple Pencil.
