The first generation Apple pencil will work with the iPad Air 3 only (latest version iPad Air 2019). I believe the previous iPad Airs, will not work with a pencil; however, you can do a web search asking your question, to be sure.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.As far as I know, the only iPad Air that can be used with an Apple Pencil, is the latest version (2019)...the iPad Air 3. It uses the Apple Pencil, 1st generation. You can do a web search, asking if the iPad Air 2 can use an Apple Pencil. I'm fairly certain that it cannot, but a web search can tell you for sure.
