The first generation that was compatible with the iPad was the 6th gen. The 5th was the last to not work with it. You can check the generation of iPad you have by going to settings > general > about and it is on that page.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes the apple pencil first generation works with the iPad mini 5. Also the Logitech Crayon works great with the iPad mini 5 as well. It's around$30.00 cheaper than the apple pencil. The crayon has the same technology as the pencil, except it does not have pressure sensitivity. If pressure sensitivity is important to you and if you are an artist then go with the apple pencil. But if you want a pencil for note taking and some coloring the Logitech Crayon is a great option.
