“The description says this protects the front AND BACK cover. And works for both 3RD and 4TH gen iPad Pros. How will the BACK side get the correct coverage on BOTH 3rd and 4th gen devices when they have different camera setups on the back?”

It will protect both devices to an extent, this isn't an Otterbox. The camera on the 3rd gen is different than the 4th gen but it will work for this case, if you were to put the 3rd gen, in this case, there would be a small gap of space on the backside because this case is intended for the 4th gen but they would both get the correct coverage for device protection it would just look odd with a gap of space on the backside with the 3rd gen.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There is a front facing camera for when you need it like FaceId or FaceTime — unlike older generations which only had a rear facing camera. The cover can partially fold to allow use of both front and rear cameras or when switching between front and rear cameras — when Smart Cover is completely folded to the backside, it will cover up the rear facing camera.
