“Getting an Apple Ipad Pro 10.5 with an Otterbox (small kids). Will the Smart Keyboard work with the Otterbox on it or does the Otterbox make it too big / thick for the keyboard?”

I found it difficult to find a cover for the back of the iPad that was compatible with the keyboard. None that I found were similar to Otterbox.

No, this is basically a smart cover with an attached keyboard. It connects to the iPad via a magnetic strip. I would recommend purchasing the apple magic keyboard. It’s totally wireless and lightweight. I returned my smart keyboard for the same reason.

This keyboard connects to the iPad pro with three metal connectors on the side of the iPad. I don't think you could have a case on the iPad when the keyboard is connected.

Yes, you just have to select the case that has the opening to attache the keyboard. I got an otter box case and the keyboard attaches just fine. Just pick the right one.
