DirecTv Now is a stand alone application separate from any DVR or Directv service. You have to pay separately for the app/service. It’s used primarily if you don’t want to have or cannot get a box wired to that TV. It also offers cheaper packages if you don’t want full Directv service with DVR boxes. The app is a steaming app only. No cloud recording.
