Yes, this is an apple product. When you start it up, you enter it. But don't worry, you can just create one for free.

For most of the features, yes. If you have a bunch of movies on your hard drive in an itunes compatible format, you may (or may not) be able to stream them to appletv w/out a itunes account. Itunes accounts are free, the only thing you pay for is rental of movies on the appletv.
