Most modern big name routers will work (i.e. Cisco/Linksys/etc). I use mine with a Linksys wifi-N router and have no issues at all.

Any router will work, just make sure it can handle a lot of band width.

Does not need to be Apple. I use a Netgear dual band router and Apple TV prefers the 5 GHZ band over the 2.5 GHZ. I have three Apple TVs connected via WiFi with no problems.
