So I have one yes, and one no. Any way you two folks can discuss it amongst yourselves and decide who is most correct?

No, you cannot use this with an existing DVR. There is an option if you need to have local storage of video footage. You can hook up an external hard drive to the USB port and the base station will save the video to the hard drive and the cloud.
