• Yes, in order to see the AC speed you need a AC product. I tested an iPhone 5s side by side with a iPhone 6. The 5s has an N chip, the 6 has a AC chip. 5s speed was ~55mbps 6 speed was 110mbps. Your testing product matters!

• Yes you do have to have an AC compatible product to run at AC speeds but this product is also reverse compatible so It will still work with your older products.
