Yes, you would be able to use Google Docs which would be the Microsoft Word replacement.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, you can't add software to a Chromebook. Whatever tools you use are only the ones available through a Chrome browser. There are workarounds - you can use Google's online tools, such as Google Docs for word processing, and Google Docs can create and edit documents in Word format, with some limitations. You can also use Microsoft Office tools online with a subscription to Office365, making your Chromebook work almost like a Windows PC, but you have to pay for that. Chrome has lots of "extension" you can add for other workarounds. Overall, it works out for basic use, but every once in a while you may have to borrow a Windows computer to do something.

Google Docs/Slides and Sheets is built in, those apps do offer compatibility with Office. You do not download the software or install from a disc, on a Chromebook all software is apps that are in the Google Play Store.
