“Brand new - DVD player not working? Bought laptop last weekend. Put in a DVD to watch yesterday and when inserted, nothing happens. Tried going into drive, it shows the DVD name and Chapters (it's a TV show), but it won't play. I rightclicked and clicked to start autoplay....hear and feel the DVD turning... still nothing on screen. Can anyone help on how to correct or is it broken? I'm ready to return the laptop. Very frustrated... Thanks”

I believe Windows 8 does not support CD/DVD playback. It has nothing to do with the computer's hardware. You will have to download a third party DVD player program to watch DVDs.
