If you look at the F9 key on your laptop you will see that it has a picture of a touchpad with a slash through it. This key enables/disables the touchpad. Try holding down the fn key plus the F9 key to enable the touchpad. It may have accidentally gotten disabled. Also pressing the ctrl key and the alt key at the same time will free up the mouse sometimes when you can't find your cursor or it seems to be stuck. If those don't work I would try plugging in an external mouse via the usb port and see if you access the control panel to look at your mouse/touchpad settings.
