• Get VLC media player. Google it. Free and plays back many different types of media including DVD's.

• Windows has removed their Media Center. You will need to pay Microsoft $15 for a player or download a 3rd party player. The DVD player will play with the right software.

• I had two of these computers, the first one was returned for a defective optical drive which would pop open on its own. The first one did not play dvd and looked to be a completely different drive then the second one I received. The second one will play dvd to answer your question but I'm not sure why they had different optical drives between the same computers.
