A:AnswerIt is fairly quiet when using it to watch films or streaming. I did use it when everyone was sleeping, but the noise that you hear is low. I keep it in the same room where I sleep and my wife doesn't wake up when I use it after she falls asleep.
A:AnswerThis is a pretty high-performance machine; out of the box, you won't need to upgrade anything based upon your description of how you will use it. The machine DOES have a CPU fan which is more than adequate for colling, even when pushing the CPU to it's limits for long periods. I'd only recommend adding additional case fans if you install additional HDDs and/or a discreet graphics card.
