There are no real physical internal changes to the laptop you can make. Software is somewhat limited but there are some different power profiles. It seems the CPU's power is a direct contributor to heat and that, if you game with the laptop lid closed, this power is limited and you get some of the best results here (even better with external fans or with the laptop in an elevated or vertical stand where there's much more airflow on the bottom side of the laptop).
