If you have the unit turned on (the red button), you might have a defective unit. I've not had this problem. People are able to leave messages after a tone when calling.

It was disappointing to see that it was made in Chine; so I'm not sure I WANT to hook it up to my phone. It does not surprise me if it doesn't work as expected!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've had two of these, and never had a problem with a caller who wanted to record a message. I'd suggest this person start the process from scratch, deleting the prior answering response and recording a new one. The instructions for set-up are pretty clear, and if they're followed, it should work just fine. If it doesn't, there's a flaw in the machine, and it should be returned.
