Because they are two completely different technologies, one is via cables, the other is via radio waves, cell phone systems come with incorporated answering machine, they call them voicemail and other fancy names.

I'm not sure if the other person answering this question interpreted your query the way I did. If somebody calls your house from a cell phone, and attempts to leave you a message on this machine... Of course this answering machine will record the message. Now, if you interpret the question as attaching the answering machine to your cell phone to receive messages, then no it won't work.
