A:Answer When batteries are out, there's no display but the phone still works. When you reinstall batteries, it appears that the Caller ID record history is still there. I had 65 numbers in history and as I scrolled through, they mostly seemed to still be there. I don't generally use the Speed Dial, but had programmed one in just to check it out and YES it still worked after the battery swap. AND the date was retained. I'm just now noticing that the clock is 10 minutes behind and am willing to guess that is due to the batteries being removed for 10 minutes, but I'm not positive that's why. However, the Directory that is supposed to hold 25 numbers with names did not retain those. Again, I don't typically use this feature, but had programmed two numbers and names into it to see what happened. You can have 14 names in your speed dial and can label these on the face of the phone, so if 14 is sufficient, you may want to use speed dial rather than the directory to store the numbers you use the most. By the way, the battery compartment is on the side of the phone rather than the bottom and is very easy to access and use.
