You may use the VM540ML Cartridge, but you should stick with the Fluance headshell that was provided with the turntable. According to Fluance documentation, the maximum acceptable combined headshell/ cartridge weight is 16.5 grams (with the provided counterweight). The VM540ML/H Headshell/Cartridge Combo Kit weighs 16.8 grams. The Fluance headshell weighs 9 grams, the (AT-HS10) headshell included with the combo kit weighs 10.4 grams including the mounting hardware. If you really want the combo kit, see if Fluance offers a heavier counterweight for the RT-85.
