I have not seen a bird watching scope , but I can say that I have tried 3 different old camcorders different makes and sizes plus a cannon sx530 hs and an old nikon coolpix s570 and they all fit no problem. I would say try it , this tri pod seems to fit everything that I have tried so far and it locks very secure and is veryy easy to use . I just puchased a second one through staples because I had a $30.00 dollar credit and I am going to buy a third from Best Buy. This has got to be the best tri pod I have ever used.
