Generally most origin games need to contact the server in order to verify your game account is valid even while playing single player modes. I can't guarantee that's the case for BF5 but experience says you'll want to reconsider purchasing it if you're only mode of playing is offline. That being said, if you don't plan on doing multiplayer and only want to enjoy the campaign mode, then you can get away with your wifi or hotspot connection to connect to the servers and then play the solo mode with no lag.
